Customers in the USA will increasingly be able to order groceries directly via ChatGPT - following Instacart, DoorDash is now also launching a new app integration that turns recipe ideas into a shopping list in real time. Together with OpenAI, the delivery service has developed an application that allows users to order ingredients for recommended recipes directly and have them delivered - sometimes within an hour.

The function is currently available to selected users, but will be extended to all customers in the coming weeks.

Shopping in conversation - with AI for dinner

The DoorDash app in ChatGPT is primarily intended to help those who have little time for meal planning and shopping. Users can ask for recipe ideas and then load the ingredients directly into their chat as a shopping list. One click is all it takes to open the shopping cart, make adjustments and complete the order via the DoorDash app.

According to DoorDash, the service offers access to a broad network of supermarkets in the USA - including nationwide chains such as Kroger and Safeway as well as regional providers such as Bi-Rite, Schnucks and Wegmans. The aim is to keep the selection as individual and local as possible.

New visibility for retailers

The integration into ChatGPT opens up new potential for local retailers: customers looking for recipe ideas can be pointed directly to nearby products. This turns the app into a new digital sales channel - and a customer loyalty tool at the same time.

According to Andy Fang, co-founder of DoorDash, this is just the beginning. There are also plans to make other local shopping categories accessible via ChatGPT in the future. DoorDash ( NASDAQ: DASH ) has completed the acquisition of London-based Deliveroo in a deal valued at approximately £2.9 billion after the boards of both companies agreed to the terms of a final cash offer.

The European Commission regulator recently concluded that the merger of two delivery companies would not impede competition, given the availability of alternatives such as Uber Eats ( UBER ), Just Eat Takeaway ( OTCPK:JTKWY ) and other regional delivery platforms.

Under the terms of the deal, Deliveroo shareholders would receive 180 pence in cash per Deliveroo share, representing a premium of approximately 44% to Deliveroo's closing share price on the last business day prior to DoorDash's offer.
