A Million with Satellit - MSCI World Momentum Champions - September 2026 Monthly Report
🚀 Month 9 since the start has also gone really well again. 🚀
So far this year, things really only went downhill from mid-June to the end of July, but over the last two months, the upward trend has continued. And yes, the 30k mark has been broken once again 😍
According to the algorithm, I was on track with Lumentum ($LITE (+1,89%) ), Kioxia ($285A (+8,2%) ), Micron ($MU (+3,07%) ), Hewlett Packard Enterprise ($HPE (+1,34%)), Recruit Holdings ($6098) (+4,33%) and Dell ($DELL (+1%) ). In addition, outside the algorithm, we are invested in SanDisk ($SNDK (+6,06%) ).
The starting value was around 26,300 euros. Due to capital gains tax on the sale of Western Digital ($WDC (+5,22%) ), 650 euros were lost; however, a capital inflow of 720 euros largely offset the tax.
All in all, September delivered a gain of almost exactly +15% for the satellite portfolio.
+4,000 euros in capital gains 🚀
Who was involved and how it went:
- Lumentum +11% 🚀
- Kioxia +16% 🚀
- SanDisk +16% 🚀
- Micron +15% 🚀
- Dell +21% 🚀🚀
- HPE +25% 🚀🚀
- Recruit +1% 🐌
The overall result was driven equally strongly by all of them. Only Recruit Holdings was unable to keep pace with the strength of the others.
YTD, the momentum performance now stands at a strong +110% TTWROR. 🤯😍
The analyses will now show whether there will be any changes for October. At least, that’s what I’m expecting. The analyses are underway...
Only 33 more to go until a million 🥹
Edit: Recruit Holdings is no longer in the portfolio for October. After a long wait, we now officially welcome SanDisk to the MSCI World Index—and thus directly into the portfolio (I’d already held it for a while as a precaution)—and Marvell has also made it back into the lineup. Here’s to a great October, which we’d love to see bring us the 3x.xxx,xx € mark!

📊 Wikifolio Update August 2026
SanDisk $SNDK (+6,06%) up 28 percent, Western Digital $WDC (+5,22%) down 18 percent. Both in the same sector, in the same month. My model didn’t react to either of these movements, yet at the end of the month it was still up 3.03 percent.
August had two sides. At the beginning of the month, mild inflation data was released, and the S&P 500 hit an all-time high of 7,816 points on August 13. After that, sentiment on the bond markets shifted. The 30-year U.S. yield rose to its highest level in nearly twenty years, and U.S. gross debt exceeded forty trillion dollars. At the end of the month, Nvidia reported $NVDA (+1,38%) quarterly revenue of 96.2 billion, an increase of 106 percent. The next day, Fed Chairman Warsh signaled a pause in Jackson Hole, and the market priced in an interest rate hike in September.
📊 Monthly performance: +3.03%
📊 Max. Performance: 16.1%
📊 Price as of Aug. 31: €116.85
📊 Next Rebalancing: October 1, 2026
Performance & Comparison 🚀
August was a positive month for all major indices. The Nasdaq led the way, driven by Nvidia. The model performed in the middle of the pack and outperformed the broad indices.
Performance Comparison (August 1–August 31, 2026, end of day):
Global Quant 6-Factor: +3.03%
NASDAQ 100: +3.57%
S&P 500: +2.74%
FTSE All-World: +2.27%
DAX: +2.03%
Purchases & Sales 💶
None. The model trades only quarterly; the last rebalancing took place on July 1. Nothing happens between those dates, even if individual positions diverge significantly. That is precisely the point of the rules. The next rebalancing is scheduled for October 1, when a larger portion of the portfolio will be replaced.
Top Movers in August 🟢
The month belonged to gold mining stocks. Over the course of the month, gold rose at times to nearly $4,700, reaching its highest level since May. By the end of the month, it had given back some of those gains. The move was driven by a weaker dollar combined with ongoing central bank purchases. Mining stocks react to this with leverage because their margins rise disproportionately. Coeur Mining $CDE (-0,16%) topped the list with +35.68%, followed by Newmont $NEM (+0,12%) at +33.60% and Endeavour Mining at +28.33%. Fresnillo $FRES (-0,9%) rose +26.63%. All four have been in the portfolio since the spring. In addition, the storage stocks performed well. SanDisk $SNDK (+6,06%) rose by +28.07%, and Micron $MU (+3,07%) by +12.50%.
August’s Biggest Losers 🔴
AppLovin $APP (+0,69%) suffered the biggest loss at -20.78%. Western Digital $WDC (+5,22%) fell -18.77%, while SanDisk gained nearly thirty percent over the same period. Comfort Systems $FIX (+2,98%) fell by -13.00%, and Merlin Properties $MRL (-1,51%)
-9.79%. Among financial stocks, the decline was limited; HSBC $HSBA (-1,02%) lost -5.05%. Alphabet $GOOG (+1,12%) fell -4.18%.
Conclusion 💡
August demonstrated the value of a diversified portfolio. While technology stocks diverged and AppLovin fell 20 percent, gold mines carried the month. None of these positions are in the portfolio based on personal opinion; they’re there because the ranking placed them at the top. October 1 will be interesting because a large portion of the commodity stocks are on the sell list.
❓ Question for the Community
Did the volatility in August make you get cold feet, or did you stubbornly hold onto your positions? And how much gold do you currently have in your portfolio?

A single manufacturer's slide shows just how bad the situation is with SSD prices
That's why I'm sticking with $MU (+3,07%) Micron and $HY9H (+4,85%) SK Hynix.
But these are also interesting:
My friends, here you should compare growth and valuation.
One of the largest SSD manufacturers is providing insight into its long-term contracts. Most of the storage capacity for the next two years has already been allocated.
SanDisk has published its latest annual report, and it doesn’t bode well for end customers. A slide on “New Business Models” (NBMs) summarizes the bleak outlook.
SanDisk refers to its long-term supply contracts with major customers for NAND flash memory and finished SSDs as NBMs. The manufacturer has signed eight such contracts with customers for data centers and edge devices. PC, laptop, and smartphone manufacturers are apparently not included. The contracts typically run for four to five years.
For the period from July 2026 to the end of June 2027, SanDisk has already allocated half of its memory production to the eight NBM customers. For the following twelve months, the figure is laut Bekanntmachung it’s even two-thirds. And that doesn’t even include the allocation for contracts outside the NBMs. Either way, it’s clear that less and less is left for PC manufacturers. Meanwhile, the eight contracts combined provide for guarantees totaling $16.5 billion in the event that customers purchase less storage than agreed upon.
In particular, the figures highlight the state of the NAND flash memory and SSD markets: SanDisk is the world’s second-largest manufacturer specializing exclusively in NAND flash and SSDs. Unlike Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron, its figures are not mixed with DRAM for RAM.
Nearly $94 billion minimum value
The eight contracts have a combined value of at least $93.9 billion. SanDisk clarifies that this figure applies to the lowest agreed-upon NAND flash prices. The companies have negotiated price ranges depending on availability. CFO Luis Visoso said in an analyst conference call regarding the figures that actual revenue will likely be higher. However, even at the lowest prices, the margin is expected to be attractive.
All memory manufacturers are currently negotiating long-term supply contracts, mostly with price ranges. In doing so, they are effectively reducing volatility in the market: When all companies set high minimum prices, they no longer undercut each other significantly. The minimum prices typically correspond to current levels. A Rückkehr zu den Speicherpreisen aus dem Jahr 2025 ist damit unwahrscheinlich.
Revenue and Profit Rise Significantly
SanDisk generated $9 billion in revenue in the second calendar quarter. Compared to the first quarter of 2026 alone, this represents 51 percent growth. According to the manufacturer, one-third of the growth is attributable to additional sales and two-thirds to higher prices. The gross margin stands at a staggering 84.6 percent.
This leaves just over seven billion in operating profit and just under seven billion in net profit. A year earlier, SanDisk had posted a net loss of 23 million US dollars. Due to low SSD prices at the time, the company was operating on the verge of profitability.
Kioxia Is Growing Even Faster
Kioxia, the largest pure-play NAND flash manufacturer based in Japan, reported its neuesten Geschäftsbericht veröffentlicht. The company generated revenue equivalent to 11 billion U.S. dollars in the second quarter of 2026. However, due to higher operating expenses and, above all, taxes, the resulting profit is significantly lower than Sandisk’s: just under 5.3 billion U.S. dollars.
Kioxia is much more secretive about its long-term contracts than its competitors. They exist, but details are unknown.

Western Digital Beats Expectations and Provides Outlook—But Its Stock Still Falls
$WDC (+5,22%) – The Western Digital Corporation reported earnings per share of $3.56 for the fourth quarter on Wednesday, beating analysts’ expectations of $3.29 by $0.27. The data storage manufacturer’s revenue for the quarter was $3.75 billion, also exceeding the consensus estimate of $3.69 billion.
The company’s revenue in the fourth fiscal quarter rose 44% compared to the same period last year. Adjusted earnings per share more than doubled year-over-year.
For the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, Western Digital forecasts earnings per share between $3.85 and $4.15, compared to the analyst consensus of $3.77. The company expects revenue in the range of $4.0 billion to $4.2 billion, while the consensus is $4.04 billion.
Based on the midpoint of the forecast, Western Digital anticipates first-quarter revenue of $4.1 billion and non-GAAP earnings per share of $4.00. For the quarter, the company expects a non-GAAP gross margin between 55% and 56%.
"WD closed fiscal year 2026 with a strong performance. In our fourth fiscal quarter, revenue increased 44% year-over-year, gross and operating margins expanded, and earnings per share more than doubled," said Irving Tan, CEO of WD.
Western Digital attributed the results to growing global demand for storage solutions, improved gross and operating margins, and operational discipline in end markets.
For the full fiscal year 2026, the company reported revenue of $12.92 billion, representing a 36% increase from the previous year. Diluted non-GAAP earnings per share reached $10.22, compared to $5.02 in fiscal year 2025.
The company’s board of directors announced a quarterly cash dividend of $0.15 per share, to be paid on September 17, 2026, to shareholders of record as of September 8, 2026.
Western Digital’s stock traded about 7.8% lower following the earnings report.
My take: I’ve come to find it just annoying that no matter how high you set the consensus—and even when you beat it—tech stocks get sold off right afterward and profits are taken. Yes, I can certainly understand wanting to lock in profits, but the outlook is stable, so I often find these reactions simply exaggerated. Well, just my two cents.

And after a 580% 12-month stock price gain, beating consensus just isn’t enough.
