63Something boring again
Good evening, everyone,
Here's another post from the "Boring DDepot" section :)
I recently rebalanced my portfolio again and sold off $QCOM (+2,05%) & $WFG (+0,39%) . I invested the freed-up funds in $MSFT (+1,18%)
$V (+0,1%) & $JPM (+0,42%) since these are long-term positions.
With $QCOM (+2,05%) , I’d been hoping for better short-term prospects, but those didn’t really materialize, so the money $MSFT (+1,18%) .
With $WFG (+0,39%) I sold one of my earliest positions; I’d entered it at a pretty bad time, so I exited with a slight loss for now. However, I may re-enter this position if the wood commodity recovers cyclically and, potentially, demand in home construction rises—that’s what I had actually been speculating on, but it seems it will take a little while longer.
Hopefully, the loss pool has had enough for now, and I’m constantly learning :)
I currently have a savings plan in place for $VWRL (+0,92%)
$TDIV (+0,1%)
$WGLD (+0,86%) and $BTC (+1,85%)
I still have some capital available, but I’m not quite sure yet where or how I’ll invest it. The positions in $MSFT (+1,18%) and $V (+0,1%) for now, unless they become cheap enough. I’m undecided whether the other stocks are worth adding to; if anything, I’d like to snag another 2 shares of $ALV (-0,08%) , but they’re pretty expensive right now.
My watchlist currently includes things like
- $AMZN (+1,35%)
$UNP (+0,41%) (though it’s just gotten expensive again)- $OTTR (+0,62%)
$BLBD (+0,69%)
$MAIN (+0,56%) (which is trending down a bit again)- $SJ (+0,72%)
$TGLS (+0,89%)
My portfolio is mainly focused on high-quality, “boring” companies; the goal is to generate cash flow right from the start, and I want to feel comfortable with it. The investment horizon is generally long-term—more than 20–30 years—but I also want to start seeing some returns now. Probably not for most people here, but I’m very happy with it right now. Let’s see how the journey continues—I’ll probably wait until the start of next week for now.
I’m always open to feedback, tips, or stocks that would be a good fit here :)
You're clearly overweight in the US. That can quickly make things less boring. USD weakness, sovereign debt crisis, shadow banking collapse, private debt orgy, government restructuring - this will not leave US equities unscathed.
Why don't you have any EM value stocks?

Fusion von Union Pacific und Norfolk Southern zurückgewiesen, da unvollständig
"Jan 16 (Reuters) - The U.S. Surface Transportation Board on Friday sent back Union Pacific’s $UNP (+0,41%) proposed $85 billion merger with Norfolk Southern $NSC (+0,46%) for revision, saying it lacked required information, as part of a review in which the U.S. transport regulator will define what enhanced competition means under tougher merger rules adopted in 2001.
The STB ruled the December application incomplete, citing missing projections of market share and impacts on competition. The board rejected the filing without prejudice, allowing the railroads to refile once the deficiencies are addressed."

Best Companies to Own: Methodology
The companies on this list are covered by Morningstar Research Services’ equity analysts and have shares available to US investors. This means that Morningstar equity analysts have calculated fair value estimates for the shares of the companies that trade on US exchanges. As a result, most of the companies on this list are based in the US.
Within that coverage list, the best companies meet the following criteria:
- Wide Economic Moat. The Morningstar Economic Moat Rating summarizes the length of a company’s competitive advantages. An economic moat is a structural feature allowing a firm to generate excess profits over a long period. If Morningstar Research Services believes that excess returns will persist for 20 years or more, that company earns a wide moat rating.
- Standard or Exemplary Capital Allocation. The stock’s Morningstar Capital Allocation Rating is an assessment of the quality of management’s capital allocation, with particular emphasis on the firm’s balance sheet, investments, and shareholder distributions. Capital allocation is judged from an equity shareholder’s perspective, considering companies’ investment strategy and valuation, balance-sheet management, and dividend and share buyback policies on a forward-looking basis. A company can receive an Exemplary, Standard, or Poor Capital Allocation Rating.
- Low or Medium Fair Value Uncertainty. The fair value Morningstar Uncertainty Ratingrepresents the predictability of a company’s future cash flows and, therefore, the level of certainty in the fair value estimate of that company. The Uncertainty Rating for a company can be Low, Medium, High, Very High, or Extreme. It captures a range of likely potential intrinsic values for a company based on the characteristics of the business underlying the stock, including such things as operating and financial leverage, sales sensitivity to the economy, product concentration, and other factors. The more predictable cash flows, the smaller the range of potential intrinsic values, the lower the uncertainty.
What Gives a Company an Economic Moat?
Companies with moats have one or more of the following characteristics:
- Network Effect. Lots of people are using the service, which then makes the service more valuable to the people who use it.
- Intangible Assets. Patents, brands, regulatory licenses, and other intangible assets can prevent competitors from duplicating a company’s products or allow the company to charge a significant price premium.
- Cost Advantage. Firms with a structural cost advantage can either undercut competitors on price while earning similar margins or charge market-level prices while earning relatively high margins.
- Switching Costs. When it would be too expensive or troublesome to stop using a company’s products, the company often has pricing power.
- Efficient Scale. When a niche market is effectively served by one or a small handful of companies, there is no room or incentive for potential competitors to enter the market.
To maintain analysts’ independence, Morningstar Research Services does not publicly rate its parent company Morningstar Inc. Therefore, Morningstar, Inc. is not on the list of the best companies available to US investors.

📈 Nova compra: Union Pacific
Buy & hold… for life.
But the position is still open
I decided against $UNP (+0,41%) and just went shopping on the walk. $CP (+0,68%) shopping.
The stock fits well into my portfolio, the sector is currently at its lowest point and this is where I hope to see the most growth with a small dividend 💸
Another 16 shares will be bought at the end of the month.
CP has what I missed with CNR. Strong and experienced management that operates cost-efficiently and is focusing on high growth (in terms of the business) through the acquisition of Kansas City Southern.

Now siding after all (CNR)
Yesterday I decided to part with my position at a slight loss. $CNR (+0,23%) position with some loss... 🚋
As one of my first major investments and also intended as a long-term position, I decided to do so at the time after only a brief look at the superficial key figures. I wasn't really involved here yet and was in the "just try it out" phase. Of course, I also paid far too much for the paper... 😥
Due to the fact that I am taking my journey in the stock/investing universe more and more seriously and I am constantly trying to sift through more information and evaluate it better in order to make informed decisions. Yesterday I decided to draw the line here, mainly due to the management:
When Tracey took over Q1/22 it looked something like this:
EPS C$1.32 // long term debt C$13.383M // net debt to EBITDA 1.92 // shares out 700M
Arrived today in Q3/25:
EPS C$1.87 // long term debt C$21.120M // net debt to EBITDA 2.54 // shares out 620M
Only 6% growth was reported for earnings, and CAPEX of C$2.8B was announced again. The outlook remains at the lower end of the range with mid to high single digit EPS growth...
In addition, there is also the increased pressure from direct competition from CPKC.
During this time, around $8B in new debt was raised (at fairly high interest rates) to buy back shares at the highest valuation. At the same time, the growth prospects are not really exciting and there is a lot of turnover in the management team.
For me, the new M-team does not seem to be really experienced and the handling of the capital allocation is more than questionable.
That's why I'm calling it a day for now ❌
In any case, I've learned something again with this stock and hopefully I can and will project this into the future. I'm now taking much more time with the evaluation and can hold back instead of immediately dumping my money into the market (individual stocks).
I haven't quite thought about where to allocate the money I've freed up yet, but I'm already interested in taking a position in $CP (+0,68%) or possibly $UNP (+0,41%) build up.
I know it's looooong 😂But the valuation of $CP (+0,68%) is currently coming down even further, the growth story seems interesting and the management also looks good.
I may also use the money freed up to increase other positions in the portfolio, we'll see.
Do you have any tips or experience in this regard? Do you check the figures first or whether the management can/will deal with them?

What else has happened?
As announced, I asked the tax office to recalculate the advance payments. This was done and fortunately I no longer have to pay anything in advance.
If things go well, I'll even get some money back next year.
The bill for the car has also arrived and amounts to €1500. But that really pays for everything.
My nest egg has melted down to €900 and now I have to build it up again. Once again, the target is €10,000.
I was on vacation in Egypt from the end of September until last weekend. As always, it was super nice and just pure relaxation.
🥅 Destinations 2025:
Deposit of €10,000 and thus a custody account volume in the share portfolio of ~€73,000
Target achievement at the end of September 2025: 69.19%
