John Deere or Fendt? Tractor market leader 2025 clearly
John Deere, Fendt, Claas and Case on a field. Who will be the market leader in Germany in 2025?
Drastically fewer new registrations, but a clear winner: the German tractor market in 2025 will be in no doubt about who is in the lead. Fendt and John Deere dominate - but one brand has a clear lead. Who leads the market and how big the gap really is.
Every year in January, the Federal Motor Transport Authority publishes tractor registrations - and thus decides who wins or loses the market. The statistics are complete with the figures for December 2025. They show how many new tractors were registered last year - and who secured market leadership.
The result is surprising, but not because of the market leadership - that remains unchanged.
Note on our own behalf: The evaluation has not yet been completed. Minor deviations in the number of units are therefore possible.
Fendt or John Deere? Market leadership for tractors in 2025
It has already become apparent in recent months: Fendt's lead in new tractor registrations was only arithmetically possible to catch up with. Now it is clear: Fendt is the market leader in Germany with 6,315 tractors - across all power classes. This does not yet include the Vario MT full-track tractors. However, they are likely to be in the lower double-digit range.
However, despite the presumed jubilation in Marktoberdorf, there is also a downside: After selling 7,392 tractors in 2024, the manufacturer sold 1,077 fewer machines in Germany in 2025. This corresponds to a decline of 14.5 percent - and thus significantly more than the overall market declined in percentage terms.
John Deere remains in second place, albeit well behind the first-placed manufacturer. This means that the first two places in the ranking remain unchanged.
The John Deere brand registered 4,264 tractors. Fendt's lead over its rival is 2,051 tractors.
Farmers bought fewer new tractors in 2025
The VDMA reports that 25,711 new tractors were registered for the first time in Germany last year. This is a drastic decrease of over 12 percent compared to 2024.
The statistics include all tractors that were registered and received a license plate - including small tractors under 50 hp. It does not include lawn tractors for private gardens, for example, which are not approved for road use.
Further rankings still open
How Claas, Deutz-Fahr, Kubota, Case IH and New Holland will be placed in the ranking has not yet been finalized. The Federal Motor Transport Authority records tractor registrations at group level and not according to individual brands. As several brands belong to one group, the figures must first be broken down by the manufacturers. As soon as this data is available, we will publish the further rankings.
These two are also relatively easy to attach for us as attachments-Hersteller✌️👍

Hybrid tractor with 400 hp from the Far East: competition for John Deere & Fendt?
$1157 (+1,5 %)
$AGCO (+1,01 %)
$DE (+1,35 %)
$MHID (-1,48 %)
An agricultural machinery manufacturer previously unknown in Europe has developed its first 400 hp tractor with hybrid drive. The brand is backed by a huge corporation from Asia. Will Fendt and John Deere have to prepare for competition?
Agricultural machinery groups such as John Deere and AGCO are known in Europe for their strong brands. So far, only a few farmers and contractors are familiar with the Chinese company Zoomlion. But that could change in the next few years.
The state-owned company is not only one of the world's largest machine manufacturers, but has now unveiled its first tractor with 400 hp. The special feature: The large tractor works with a hybrid drive. We explain the details.
Chinese XXL tractor Zoomlion with 400 hp
Some farmers are familiar with the Chinese brand Zoomlion from Agritechca 2015, when the agricultural machinery brand was represented as an exhibitor and showed a standard tractor with 160 hp and a Deutz engine (tractors from China for the European market).
In addition to cranes, excavators and concrete pumps, Zoomlion also builds tractors, balers, combine harvesters for rice and grain and other agricultural machinery in its agricultural division.
Hybrid tractor: few details known so far
According to the company, Zoomlion's first hybrid tractor rolled out of the production plant in Kaifeng in Henan province in eastern China at the beginning of the year. The Zoomlion DV4004 is a standard tractor with 400 hp. So far, however, there is little technical data on the tractor.
Engine and generator: Will the tractor be diesel-electric?
The hybrid tractor is partly directly driven, but also has several motors installed, probably electric motors for auxiliary drives. Even though Zoomlion does not provide any further information about the drive, the tractor presumably works with a diesel engine and a generator. No details are known about the exhaust emission standard achieved.
Large Chinese tractor with large cab
Photos show the tractor with tires from Trelleborg. It is said to achieve a tractive force of the equivalent of 14.5 tons and be able to travel at a speed of 12 km/h "under heavy load". According to Zoomlion, the tractor consumes 23.25 l/ha of diesel, which is 8 percent less than a comparable tractor in this power range. The four-post cab looks very large. There is no information on whether the tractor will also be marketed in Europe in the future.
Tractors and agricultural machinery from China: Who is Zoomlion?
Zoomlion is one of the largest manufacturers of construction machinery and generated a turnover of around 15 billion US dollars last year. Around a third of this total turnover was generated in the agricultural machinery sector. In 2020, the Group acquired the traditional brand Rabe Agrartechnik from Bad Essen (Almost forgotten agricultural machinery manufacturer surprises with new cultivator). Around 26,000 employees work for the Group worldwide.
Perhaps a good Asian investment.

🚜 Deere: From king of the field to prince of construction?
Company presentation and historical development
$DE (+1,35 %) John Deere, better known under the John Deere brand, is a leading global manufacturer of agricultural machinery and construction equipment. With an impressive history dating back to 1837, the company was founded by John Deere in Grand Detour, Illinois. Originally revolutionizing agriculture with the development of an innovative, self-cleaning steel plow, Deere laid the foundation for John Deere's rise to a global corporation whose green and yellow machines and iconic leaping deer logo can now be found in fields and construction sites around the world.
Business model and core competencies
Deere operates in three clearly defined business areas:
1. Production & Precision Agriculture: this division focuses on tractors, combine harvesters and loaders developed specifically for medium and large-scale agricultural operations.
2. Small Agriculture & Turf: Here, Deere offers machines and solutions for smaller farms, livestock farming and the maintenance of green spaces.
3. construction & forestry: In this segment, the company manufactures machines for construction and forestry that are used on construction sites as well as in the forestry sector worldwide.
Deere's core competencies lie in the continuous development of high-performance, technologically advanced agricultural machinery. The company invests heavily in research and development, particularly in the areas of precision agriculture and automation. This innovative strength secures Deere a leading position in global agricultural technology and makes it possible to sustainably increase efficiency and productivity in agriculture.
Future prospects and strategic initiatives
Looking to the future, Deere is increasingly focusing on digitalization and automation to meet the growing demands of modern agriculture. The company is developing autonomous tractors and implementing artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize work processes in the fields and maximize crop yields. There is a particular focus on precision agriculture, in which machines and software solutions work closely together to make the use of resources such as water, fertilizers and seeds more efficient.
Deere is also driving forward the development of sustainable solutions, including electrically powered machines for smaller farms and the use of biofuels for larger agricultural machinery. Another important strategic initiative is the expansion of software-based services with the aim of increasing the share of recurring revenue. These services provide farmers with data-driven insights and enable them to manage their fields more efficiently.
Market position and competition
Deere is the undisputed market leader in the agricultural machinery industry and holds a market share of 50-60% in North America. This considerable lead over competitors such as $CNHI (+0,4 %) , $AGCO (+1,01 %) and $6326 (-0,02 %) underscores Deere's dominance in the global market. Not only the company's sales, but also its market capitalization clearly exceeds that of its competitors.
Deere's strong market position is supported by several factors:
- A history of almost 200 years, which consolidates the company as an established premium brand in the agricultural sector.
- Economies of scale in the areas of purchasing, production, marketing and research, which enable Deere to reduce costs and invest in innovation at the same time.
- Targeted expansion into adjacent markets, such as forestry machinery and road construction technology, which open up additional growth opportunities.
Share performance
Deere's share performance has been good in recent years Over the past five years, the company has achieved a total return of 169%. Despite the cyclical nature of its business, which is affected by fluctuations in agricultural markets, Deere remains an attractive investment option for long-term investors due to its innovative strength and robust fundamentals.
Development
Deere is by far the largest manufacturer of agricultural machinery and related equipment in terms of sales. Even if sales are expected to decline in 2024, the company's long-term development remains one of the strongest in the market
When looking at Deere's sales distribution, it quickly becomes clear that the company is much more than just an agricultural company. In addition to the agricultural sector, Deere is also active in the construction and forestry sectors, with the construction and forestry sectors in particular experiencing strong growth recently. Nevertheless, the majority of turnover still comes from agriculture.
In terms of growth, Deere is one of the frontrunners and continues to present impressive figures. If the Japanese companies are not taken into account when the yen is taken into account, Deere even takes first place, despite the considerable size of the company.
In terms of gross profit margin, Deere is in the top class and has been able to increase it continuously. However, this is not happening at too great a distance from Kabuto.
In terms of net profit margin, Deere is twice as strong as the competition and has also significantly improved this key figure in recent years.
Since 2020, Deere has also recorded positive free cash flow figures that clearly stand out from the competition.
In the area of share-based compensation (SBC), Deere has also recorded considerable growth that significantly exceeds sales increases. However, this development is problematic for shareholders as it indicates dilution of their shares and raises concerns about long-term value creation.
Nevertheless, the company has continuously carried out share buybacks in recent years to support its own share base and increase shareholder value.
While Deere's net leverage ratio is above 3%, only AGCO is better positioned in this regard.
In terms of EV to EBITDA ratio, Deere is among the better valued companies, reflecting the expectations for the company, despite its size, compared to its peers. In contrast, AGCO appears very favorably valued in this area.

another great comparison on an important topic.
Humanity is hungry and wants to be fed.
We still have the biggest population growth in Asia and Africa.
In Africa and India, however, many farmers do not yet have any agricultural machinery and will not be able to afford high-quality tractors.
The Indian manufacturer $MHID
wants to make it possible for these farmers to drive tractors. And that's why I see potential here.
🚜 Deere: From king of the field to prince of construction? Part 1:https://getqu.in/27HkzI/
In the area of research and development (R&D) $DE (+1,35 %) Although Deere spends slightly less in percentage terms, the company invests the most in this sector in absolute terms.
In terms of shareholder yield, Deere offers shareholders the highest and best returns, but these are rather low compared to other sectors.
The payout ratio for all is in the green zone.
In terms of Return on Invested Capital (ROIC), Deere is behind AGCO, but has a return of over 10%.
Deere is by far the best positioned company in terms of return on equity (ROE)
In the area of Return on Capital Employed (ROCE), Deere is also above 10 % and is thus the front runner, just ahead of AGCO. $AGCO (+1,01 %) .
Conclusion
Deere has developed extremely well in recent years and is expanding successfully in various areas. The company has a strong brand and can show the best figures in almost all aspects. Looking to the future, Deere is also well positioned and has the opportunity to invest significantly more in the automation of its machines due to increasing margins. Deere is also the market leader in the US, which underlines the company's strong position in a challenging and competitive environment.
Thanks to its solid base in recurring revenue (ARR) and efficient data collection, I see Deere as the most future-proof investment opportunity in its industry. The company is able to finance costs and projects optimally, which brings significant benefits. In addition, Deere remains close to the competition in the area of research and development and does not fall behind.
I bought the shares a few months ago in the hope that Deere will successfully master the change and move ever closer to Caterpillar.
AGCO looks extremely attractive due to its current valuation. However, it remains to be seen whether this is a real bargain or a long-term downward correction, but it could be something for one or two people
