My favorite place every 14 days to let the stock market be the stock market and simply enjoy life, the emotions and the stupid chatter of my over-70 neighbors.

Next week will be relatively quiet for me, as I'm traveling in Switzerland and only have 3 open trades.

$ASML (-1,11 %) which is still just in profit and has fortunately held the zone.

$TSN (+1,23 %) where I am considering exiting with +20% before the figures on Tuesday

And since the sell-off Friday $CAT (-0,94 %)

Have a nice weekend 🫡

Monday:

The order situation in German industry is developing poorly. Orders fell by 5.8% in August. Economists had expected a decline of only 2.0%. Experts see this as a further sign of crisis in German industry.

In order to ease the burden on the German pension system, the economic experts now have an unconventional proposal. Children aged 6 and over could be given 10 euros a month by the state to invest in a selected fund with a high proportion of equities.

Tuesday:

$MCD (+0,02 %) McDonald's is suing the four largest beef suppliers in the USA. The company accuses them of price fixing and forming a cartel. The companies include $JBSS3 JBS, $TSN (+1,23 %) Tyson Foods, Cargill and National Beef

From Tuesday to Wednesday, the HBO documentary on $BTC (-0,03 %) Bitcoin. According to HBO, the secret of Satoshi Nakamoto will be revealed. Nakamoto is considered the creator of Bitcoin, but his identity is still unknown. Nakamoto probably owns 1.1 million Bitcoins, which corresponds to a value of around USD 60 billion. A revelation could be highly explosive for the financial markets.

The revelation is that, according to HBO, Peter Todd is behind Satoshi Nakamoto, but he vehemently denies this.

Wednesday:

German exports are growing, contrary to expectations. In August, goods worth 131.9 billion euros were exported, 1.3% more than in July. The USA in particular is driving exports. Exports to Germany's most important trading partner grew by 5.5%. Exports to China and the UK also increased. Imports, on the other hand, fell slightly to 109.4 billion euros.

The FOMC minutes were published on Wednesday evening. Overall, these were received positively on the stock market. The 0.5 percentage point cut in the US was approved by a large majority. However, this is probably not intended to determine the pace of further interest rate cuts.

Thursday:

With $BMW (+2,37 %) BMW and $MBG (+1,91 %) Mercedes, two German brands have made it into the top 10 best-known brands. According to Interbrand, the brand alone is worth more than the companies are currently valued on the stock market. $TSLA (-2,72 %) Tesla, on the other hand, is clearly losing brand value. One of the reasons cited is that Elon Musk supports Donald Trump.

https://www.handelsblatt.com/unternehmen/it-medien/interbrand-ranking-zwei-deutsche-in-den-top-ten-der-wertvollsten-marken-der-welt/100072227.html

However, car manufacturers are unable to translate this brand strength into sales. BMW sold 13% fewer cars in the 3rd quarter than in the previous year. Sales fell to 540,000 vehicles. In China in particular, sales fell by 29.8%. However, the main reason for this was delivery stops due to Continental's brake systems. Mercedes was even able to increase sales, at least compared to the previous quarter. In China, however, Mercedes sales also fell by 13%. Mercedes sold a total of 503,600 cars in the 3rd quarter.

Inflation in the USA falls to 2.4%, although this is 0.1 percentage points above the general expectation. This means that the inflation rate is still above the Fed's target of 2%. A second major interest rate cut of 50 basis points has therefore become less likely.

https://www.wiwo.de/finanzen/boerse/bitcoin-kurs-aktuell-inflation-in-den-usa-bei-2-4-prozent-bitcoin-gibt-leicht-nach/27382428.html

$NET (-6,71 %) Cloudflare acquires Kivera, enabling it to further expand its position in IT security. This will make the use of cloud services in particular more secure for corporate customers.

https://netzpalaver.de/2024/10/10/cloudflare-uebernimmt-kivera-zur-gewaehrleistung-einfacher-praeventiver-cloud-sicherheit/

Elon Musk has promised autonomous driving, but he has delivered a new date. In 2026, series production at $TSLA (-2,72 %) start at Tesla. That would be 10 years since he announced the breakthrough. Elon Musk has thus disappointed the markets. What's more, if his bet on Trump doesn't work out, 2026 is also unlikely to be achievable. Only with Trump could the rules be adapted so that the robo-taxi arrives as early as 2026.

Friday:

Also $P911 (+1,07 %) Porsche is also selling fewer cars, and Porsche's main problem lies in the Chinese sales market. Porsche is also selling almost 1/3 fewer vehicles in China. Similar to Mercedes and BMW, Porsche has hardly granted any price reductions on its vehicles.

Hello, Community,

Today I’d like to introduce you to a category of stocks that’s likely to divide opinion. I’m talking about so-called “sin stocks.”

While many focus on ESG, sustainability, and the like, there are also investors who are looking for the exact opposite. I’m one of them.

Some people traditionally associate sin stocks with the alcohol, tobacco, and gambling sectors. I’d like to make it a bit more interesting and expand the scope of “sin.”

To do this, I’m drawing on the seven deadly sins and would like to introduce a few stocks that (may) be associated with them: pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth.

First things first: I’d like to avoid moral debates as much as possible. If this is already making you gasp for air, please skip this post.

Sin 1: Pride.

Those who are to perish first become proud; and pride comes before a fall

This includes companies operating in the luxury segment. For example $RMS (-0,8 %) , $RACE (-0,39 %) or this one, which is very popular $MC (-1,51 %). What makes them interesting, in my view, is that the more luxurious they are, the less dependent they are on economic cycles. The super-rich hardly care when an economic crisis strikes. On top of that, they can achieve exorbitant margins, since pricing simply has to reflect the nature of luxury.

Sin 2: Greed

For greed is the root of all evil

The financial sector and its stocks can be counted among the “greed” stocks. For example, $JPM (+1,07 %) or $DBK (-1,06 %) , but also commodity companies such as $XOM (+2,39 %)

To be honest, I’m less familiar with this sector than with others—the financial industry is generally less interesting due to its lack of transparency.

I find commodity companies more interesting—perhaps even “suppliers” such as $NE (+2,62 %) , which are manufacturers of oil rigs.

Sin 3: Lust

I don’t have any stocks in this sector in my portfolio myself. For quite some time, I’ve been $RICK (-1,97 %) —they operate in the “adult entertainment” industry and run strip clubs. They also run restaurants (“Bombshells”) where the waitresses’ uniforms consist of very little fabric. In my view, however, these Bombshells aren’t that attractive, which is why I didn’t invest.

You could certainly also include apps like $GRND (-6,69 %) in this category as well.

Do you have or know of any stocks you’d classify here?

Sin 4: Envy

This category includes cosmetics stocks such as $OR (-0,46 %) or social media stocks like $META (-3,46 %) . My portfolio is also underrepresented here.

Sin 5: Gluttony

Binge drinking and gluttony characterize people who have lost their way

The classic among sin stocks. This category includes alcohol companies such as $DGE (+1,89 %) , tobacco companies such as $PM (+1,8 %) or fast-food companies like $MCD (+0,02 %)

An even more extreme example would probably be $TSN (+1,23 %) a meat producer.

Since tobacco and alcohol (can) be addictive, there’s a strong lock-in effect. That’s likely why many investors steer clear of such stocks.

I consider $MNST (+1,09 %) one of the most exciting “gluttony” stocks. As a manufacturer of energy drinks, they remind me a bit of tobacco companies, though they’re hardly regulated and can advertise freely. Strong growth in the market—and in the stock.

Sin 6: Wrath

The second classic. Wrath encompasses all stocks in the defense industry. Still frowned upon from an ESG perspective just a few years ago, they’re now almost back in vogue. $LMT (+3,31 %) , $RTX (+3,61 %) or $RHM (+5,29 %) should be familiar to most people. They are heavily dependent on government contracts and thus on political decisions. However, the trend over the next few years should be upward.

In my view, an exciting “Wrath” stock is $AXON (-6,46 %) . It’s a supplier to law enforcement, primarily in the U.S.—for example, through body cameras and Tasers. It was at $90 just before a buying opportunity—and I unfortunately missed it.

Sin 7: Sloth

Don’t be sluggish when you need to be diligent

One could include companies here that contribute to inactivity or passivity. First and foremost, the gambling industry. I see the most exciting stock here in $EVO (-0,36 %). It’s one of the stocks with the highest weighting in my portfolio. It’s a “supplier” for online casinos. Growth is enormous—the gambling industry is still very much analog. But the online segment is growing at double-digit rates annually—just like Evolution Gaming. Plus, it pays a nice dividend.

Otherwise, you can also look at various brick-and-mortar casino operators.

That was my tour of the “sin stocks.”

Now I’d be interested to know which exciting sin stocks you have.

And also, whether you see any other “sin” sectors.

By the way, I’ve had the prison operator $GEO (-2,54 %) in mind the whole time—it seems to me to be the final stop for many sins.
