Commercial ramp-up in the non-CF segment: The first significant revenue contributions are coming from gene therapy CASGEVY (sickle cell disease & beta-thalassemia, in collaboration with CRISPR Therapeutics) and the newly launched pain reliever JOURNAVX.

🤖 Forecast Upgrade & Pipeline M&A

Management is leveraging the operational momentum to immediately raise the bar for the full year:

Annual forecast raised: Revenue guidance for the full year 2026 has been raised to $13.10 to $13.20 billion .

Pipeline & M&A Momentum: The acquisition of Crinetics Pharmaceuticals for approximately $10 billion establishes the fifth pillar in the field of rare endocrine disorders. In addition, the kidney candidate Povetacicept is scheduled for the final FDA PDUFA date on November 30, 2026 .

⚡ 💡 Jack’s Take

Vertex is running like clockwork! Anyone who thought the cystic fibrosis market was saturated will be proven wrong by the double-digit growth (+12%) and successful diversification. With Casgevy as its flagship product, a pipeline brimming with candidates, and an upwardly revised annual forecast, Vertex remains an absolute bastion of quality in the biotech sector!

My dears, I remain invested.

Oppenheimer downgrades Vertex (VRTX) from Perform to Outperform up and sets a price target of USD 540 - around +16 % above the current share price.

The main reason is the strong potential of the kidney pipelineespecially the candidates Povetacizt and inaxaplinewhich are potential blockbusters are seen as potential blockbusters.

These could become a dominant nephrology franchise and diversify Vertex more diversify Vertex beyond its core CF business.

Vertex continues to demonstrate solid fundamentals:

• Sales growth over the last 12 months: +10,33 %
• Total sales: USD 11.72 billion
• Diluted EPS (12 months): USD 14.22

Oppenheimer sees no short-term risks for the CF franchise (exclusivity, competition).

Additional potential: diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN).

Unveiling the story behind Vertex Pharmaceuticals

Vertex Pharmaceuticals is a global biotechnology company that discovers and develops small molecule drugs to treat serious diseases. Key drugs include Kalydeco, Orkambi, Symdeko, Trikafta/Kaftrio and Alyftrek in cystic fibrosis, with Vertex therapies continuing to be standard of care worldwide. Vertex has diversified its portfolio with Casgevy, a gene editing therapy for beta-thalassemia and sickle cell anemia, and Journavx, a non-opioid analgesic approved for the treatment of moderate to severe acute pain in adults. In addition, Vertex is evaluating small molecule inhibitors of APOL1-mediated kidney disease. Vertex is also investigating cell therapies to provide a potential functional cure for type 1 diabetes.

My dears, what would a cure for type 1 diabetes mean for Novo?

Net Margin: Vertex Pharmaceuticals' financial strength is reflected in its exceptional net margin, which exceeds industry averages. With a remarkable net margin of 35,2 % the company demonstrates strong profitability and effective cost management.

Debt management: The debt ratio is below industry norms and indicates a solid financial structure with a ratio of 0,11 ratio.

While other pharmaceutical companies are competing with each other for weight loss products and thus pushing margins down.

I will simply remain invested in Vertex.

Morgan Stanley upgraded Vertex Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:VRTX) from "Equalweight" to "Overweight" on Wednesday and raised the price target from USD 438.00 to USD 516.00. The new target implies an upside potential of around 19% from the current price of USD 433.15.

The upgrade reflects Morgan Stanley's more positive view on Vertex's renal pipeline. In particular, it emphasizes the potential of the two drug candidates Pove and Inaxaplin, for which data from Phase 3 clinical trials are expected in 2026. This optimism is in line with broader analyst sentiment, as InvestingPro data shows that 18 analysts have recently revised their earnings estimates upwards for the coming period.

Morgan Stanley predicts that successful development of these renal drugs would accelerate Vertex's diversification beyond its core cystic fibrosis business. This segment currently accounts for 98% of sales, but this share is expected to fall to 49% by 2035.

The investment bank expects a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 8% in sales and 10% in earnings per share for the period from 2025 to 2035. The new price target implies a price/earnings (P/E) ratio of 27 based on earnings estimates for 2026 and 26 for 2027.

While Morgan Stanley acknowledges slowing growth in Vertex's cystic fibrosis division, it points out that patent protection extends into the late 2030s and there are only minimal competitive risks. This gives the company time to expand its portfolio beyond this therapeutic area. Despite these challenges, according to InvestingPro's Financial Health Check, Vertex is in strong financial shape with an overall rating of 3.09 ("GREAT"), supported by robust sales growth of 10.33% over the last twelve months.

Most recently, Vertex Pharmaceuticals also reported promising 48-week data for its experimental therapy povetacicept in two severe kidney diseases. The data showed a significant reduction in proteinuria and stabilization of renal function, with a 64% reduction in patients with IgA nephropathy and 82% reduction in patients with primary membranous nephropathy. At the same time, the company exceeded earnings expectations with 21 cents per share, due to strong sales of Trikafta and lower taxes. However, sales were only in line with guidance and the performance of newer products was mixed, according to Cantor Fitzgerald, which maintained its Overweight rating and $485 price target.

My dears,

I did this yesterday in passing. Find $VRTX (+1,64 %) quite interesting with an exciting pipeline. As always, derivatives trades with a KO are extremely risky, especially with biotech stocks, as a negative newsflow regarding the pipeline can mean the KO, because all SLs are useless. Yesterday we went into negative territory, half of which was recovered today.
