Diversify your portfolio more broadly?
Hi there ✌🏽,
My portfolio currently has a "significant" amount of AI and tech stocks.
Now I've decided to add a counterbalance to my portfolio.
But I haven’t found the right stock yet—or rather, I haven’t been able to make up my mind.
I’ve already considered stocks like $WM (-1.91%) or $NESN (+0.08%) . Or maybe a dividend ETF after all.
Do you have a “counterbalance” in your portfolio? If so, which one?
Thanks a lot
Dividends are great 🤩
I received three dividend payments today!
Lockheed, HSBC, and Waste Management 🚀
Let's see where the money goes… probably into one of my ETFs!
🗑️ Waste Management ($WM): The defensive dividend powerhouse that just keeps growing
If you’re looking for stability and predictable growth in your portfolio, Waste Management remains one of the best long-term investment cases. Waste collection and landfill management is an inelastic business, with high barriers to entry and impressive pricing power.
Here are the key points to consider regarding capital allocation and returns to shareholders for $WM (-1.91%) in 2026:
💰 Shareholder Returns by the Numbers
- New Quarterly Dividend: $0.945 per share (annualized dividend of $3.78)
- Dividend Growth: +14.5% compared to the previous year
- Dividend Yield: ~1.5%–1.6%
- Share Repurchase Program: New plan approved for $3B, with ~$2B expected to be executed by 2026.
- Annual Buyback Yield: ~2.1%
- Total Shareholder Yield: ~3.7% per year (Dividend + Share Repurchase)
📊 Investment Strategy
Although the initial dividend yield seems modest at first glance (~1.6%), the $WM (-1.91%) it is a classic Dividend Growth stock with more than 20 consecutive years of significant dividend increases. Those who bought it in the past now benefit from a Yield on Cost that is much higher.
With an unparalleled margin of safety and resilience in any economic cycle, the secret to $WM (-1.91%) boils down to buying, reinvesting dividends, and holding for the long term. 🚀

Introduction to Waste Management
A few years ago, I came across this platform and met
—back then, I was still clearly focused on dividend investing. Through this exchange, I
$UKW (+1.77%) and bought the stock.
The position is currently down about 20 percent. While the ongoing dividend mitigates the paper loss, it doesn’t change the fact that the investment hasn’t yet delivered the price performance I’d hoped for.
Current purchase
$WM (-1.91%) Management—triggered by Homer. The hope is that this position will prove to be a stable component of the portfolio over the long term and that “the Oracle” will pay off for us.
Waste Management, Inc. (WM) is the leading U.S. waste management company (collection, recycling, landfills) headquartered in Houston, Texas. The stock is traded on the NYSE and is included in the S&P 500.
3–5-Year Growth Trend: Stable, single-digit to low double-digit EPS growth driven by pricing power, efficiency, and recycling/energy initiatives. Free cash flow growth has recently been very strong (+35% in Q2, up to +151% YoY).
WM is considered a reliable dividend payer with a defensive profile and moderate but steady dividend increases.
Technical Analysis (SMA):
50-day SMA: $227.33
200-day SMA: $223.68
Price (224.21) is just below the 50-day line and slightly above the 200-day line → neutral to slightly weak momentum in the short term, intact uptrend in the medium term.
So Long Smudo
