@Staatsmann asked last week where basic needs end and luxury begins. I thought about this a little and asked myself when I really allow myself luxuries in life and whether the money is invested wisely.

I generally live relatively frugally, which is why every (luxury) expense gnaws at me 😅. For example, when my wife wants to order dinner again and I could actually cook something. Maybe my cooking skills are too poor and I should invest in a cooking course! Or when my wife wants to go on vacation again and I think it's nice to be at home. We go anyway, of course. After all, I'm happy when my wife is happy.

I would describe myself as a moderate techie. I like owning technology. But the days when I had to have the latest cell phone every two years are fortunately over. I currently treat myself to the previous year's model on the smartphone market about every 3 years. I can easily reconcile that with my conscience. Some people might still describe the 30k new car as luxury, but even here we drive with $005380 (Hyundai) is relatively economical. I usually buy my groceries at Rewe and whatever I feel like. I consciously allow myself this luxury. Wow, did I really just call food a luxury 🤯? Again, I would mainly drink water from the tap. But my wife always makes me carry crates 😁.

A really sensible luxury expense, which I think is much more sensible than any vacation, was the 1 bed room in the hospital for my 1 year old daughter. It cost around 1,000 euros in total, but it was worth the extra peace and quiet. I would do it again at any time.

What about you? What do you like to spend money on? What were sensible investments for you, even if your savings rate suffers? What do you consciously do without? And what is perhaps the game changer that everyone should own / invest in?

$005380 | Hyundai reports a 6.5% drop in profits in the third quarter despite an increase in sales, leading to a fall in the Seoul share price of almost 5%. Operating profit falls to 3.6 trillion won, while the operating margin drops to 8.3%.

$BN (+0.68%) | Danone increases its turnover in the third quarter by 4.2% to 6.9 billion euros, exceeding analysts' expectations. Demand is particularly high in North America and Asia.

$RNO (-1.38%) | Renault increases sales by 1.8% to 10.7 billion euros in the third quarter, but falls short of analysts' expectations. Exchange rate effects have a dampening effect on the result, without which a 5% increase in sales would have been possible.

$SY1 (+2.13%) | Symrise raises its forecast for organic growth in 2024 to around 7 % after strong sales growth in the first nine months. Sales rose by 6 % to 3.8 billion euros, driven by petcare and fragrance products.

$WAF (+1.01%) | Siltronic raises 2024 EBITDA margin guidance to 24-26% as acceptance of new Singapore factory is delayed. Third-quarter sales rise 2.3% to EUR 357m, exceeding expectations, while profit falls to EUR 19m.

$BEI (+0.93%) | Beiersdorf records organic sales growth of 6.5% to 7.5 billion euros, but falls short of analysts' expectations. Sales of the luxury brand La Prairie fall by over 7% in China, while the annual targets for 2024 are confirmed.

Hello everyone,

It's time for another little milestone post - today I reached a portfolio value of €25,000.

I know many people don't like it, but that doesn't matter for now.

I reached my last milestone, the €10,000 mark, about 10 months ago. A lot has happened since then.

Thanks to a change of employer last year, I managed to increase my savings rate to €1,200+.

Of this, €140 is invested in ETFs.

I currently have a significant overhang in individual shares. It all started with dividend stocks. However, dividends now only play a very minor role in my investment decisions.

My aim is to invest for the future in the long term, and I'm enjoying the topic more and more. Although I started early and had to learn the hard way here and there, I am now very satisfied with the development of the past 2-3 years. At the age of 26, many people haven't even started thinking about the future and investing.

I will probably use up the tax-free allowance of €1,000 for the first time next year at the latest, which is not a direct goal (I don't want to / have to use up this amount tomorrow), but symbolizes another stage that I have mastered. (It's a shame that this is set so low for small investors)

In my opinion, only 2 sectors are now missing from my portfolio - pharmaceuticals and commodities / mining, with my selection probably (as of today) limited to $JNJ (+0.68%) and $RIO (-0.73%) would fall.

I would also like to invest in a few Asian companies, which are currently on my watchlist. $005930

However, my portfolio shouldn't get much bigger and I will probably invest a little more in ETFs and reduce the savings rate for individual shares.

$005380 Hi, what do you think about the purchase of Boston Dynamics by Hyundai? Good as speculation on the future trends robot market? An early pearl? Good competition to Tesla at first glance. The Atlas is already very impressive. It's all still so young and developing in the market and the Chinese are pretty far along too. Are there any companies you would buy if you didn't have to look at the valuation ratio?

I am often annoyed by finding an exciting company where the investment case is very shaky and objectively the stock should not really be bought because of the valuation.

For me it is with Hyundai $005380 and Porsche $P911 (-0.21%) so

Best-in-class price-performance offerings, both Kia and Hyundai offer the most exciting new cars for a wide range of needs....

(Both brands have also introduced well-selling first electric models).

Margin offers room for improvement, but since the new gasoline models are superior to all others (and the E models are also ahead, see Ioniq 5 )

the increasing sales growth will probably solve most of the "problems".

Unfortunately difficult to assess how subjective this opinion is (different brand image in Europe/ Asia/ America?) , therefore assessment equally difficult....

Besides, car manufacturers are not exactly the future, especially not in Europe.

For obvious reasons. Sales increase with prosperity, fan base as well, a very good first E model in its class.

Certainly also a higher profit margin possible in the long term.

Nevertheless (as you could see today in the numbers) the valuation was too high for me, in the long term ok, but also for Porsche there will be years in which sales decline.

I would rather attribute to the luxury industry, but that's why the valuation is also 🚀
