Hello my dears,

the love @yngfinn has asked me how I find shares. I would like to share my answer with you.

@yngfinn

Hello my dear,

as I have enough positions in my portfolio at the moment, I am no longer looking so intensively for new companies. I don't trade and am more long-term oriented.

My approach is quite different.

By sector:

I often look at which sectors and areas are currently on the move. Or what the areas of the future are, such as robotics, defense and aerospace, AI, etc.

But I also look at which sectors and countries in my portfolio are undervalued.

Or also in which sectors I see a need to catch up because they have been driven down unjustifiably. Like the healthcare sector, for example 🍊.

I watch reports and documentaries. Like exploring the oceans and seas. And discovering Kraken Robotic $PNG (-0,91 %) and Norbit $NORBT (-1,43 %) .

https://getqu.in/Ey45a0/

After Powel's speech on Friday, for example, it would now make sense to look for real estate and homebuilders. Like Buffet did with his stock Dr. Horten $DHI (-0,53 %) .

Unfortunately, the ongoing wars show the importance of drones and drone defense.

But also the increasing importance in agriculture (I have already written a post about this).

https://getqu.in/SdXvMm/

In the end, my choice here was $AVAV (-4,56 %) AeroVironment. And the contract manufacturer $KIT (-2,55 %) Kitron.

In the future-oriented robotics sector, I don't really want to invest in overvalued stocks such as $TSLA (+0,6 %) Tesla or the contract manufacturer $JBL (-4,55 %) Jabil. I see Japan as very innovative here. As shown by $7012 (-3,41 %) Kawasaki shows. This is how I discovered the blade supplier $6481 (-3,55 %) THK (there was a post from me about this).

https://getqu.in/fZudqX/

By country:

When Iran attacked Israel, I took advantage of the dip and picked Israeli stocks.

For example, I discovered Gilat $GILT (-3,46 %) for example.

But as a long-term investor, I still see the USA in the lead. I also like to take a look at small and mid caps.

But I also often look at countries that are not quite so much in focus. Scandinavia or Italy.

I have found $LTMC (+1,59 %) Lottomatica and $CAMX (+0,33 %) Camurus.

I often only look at the companies by momentum from the various indices in these countries.

By company:

I also often look at which companies are currently the stars on the stock market. Like Rheinmetall, for example, but then I don't go into the overvalued shares, but look for suppliers, i.e. blade suppliers. That's how I came across Kitron $KIT (-2,55 %) for example. Kitron as a contract manufacturer for the defense sector.

Or when Novo Nordisk was still a star, I discovered the Novo supplier $YPSN (+0,21 %) discovered.

Nvidia supplier $HY9H (-6,01 %) sk Hynix.

Where is the capex of the companies going?

Based on this question, I came across the AI infrastructure companies $IESC (-7,77 %) IES Holding and $VRT (-0,62 %) Vertiv.

The weakness of one company makes other companies strong.

The weakness of Boeing makes $AIR (-2,68 %) and $ERJ (-2,94 %) strong. That's how I came across Embraer and $MTX (-1,29 %) MTU.

https://getqu.in/4hiSbt/

Research and reports, such as on coinbase $COIN (-7,18 %) (CAUTION never buy based on a story).

https://getqu.in/OIiwhP/

Good company figures with a growth story could also be a reason. As for example with $GILD (+0,16 %) Gilead.

https://getqu.in/iF8BDY/

Takeover fantasies:

Takeover rumors usually mean that the share price of the company to be taken over rises.

As was the case with $AWE Alphawave was the case.

https://getqu.in/1NPNWI/

Or with Iveco $IVG (+0,51 %)

https://getqu.in/WJnLFp/

https://getqu.in/VnK4Xk/

CAUTION: Something can always go wrong here and send the share price plummeting.

I experienced this myself with i robot when the UK did not agree to a takeover by Amazon.

No matter in which area. My approach is usually to pick out the momentum stocks. I then look at the multiples, news, order situation and, of course, the company.

Compounders and long-term runners:

In my core, I only invest in quality stocks with a moat.

Here it makes sense not to buy at the ATH, but on the dip.

Multiples:

What is important to me with multiples:

-profitable company, or in the next year

Profitable.

Preferably double-digit profit growth with a falling P/E ratio.

-Percentage profit growth is higher than sales growth.

-good and rising EbiT margin.

-PEG below or around 1

-increasing free cash flow taking into account capex.

My dears,

I hope my brief summary of my approach perhaps offers you a little added value.

Please let me know in the comments.

Suggestions for improvement are also welcome. 😘😘

The 94-year-old star investor is investing in new shares, according to data published by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Friday night. The document also reveals the identity of a position that was built up in secret.

Berkshire takes a stake in United Health

For two quarters, Berkshire had secretly built up a position in a share without having to disclose it. The process is not unusual. It typically happens when Berkshire builds up large positions and does not want copycats to drive up the price.

It is the US insurer United Health $UNH (-1,54 %)

After Buffett's entry became known, the share price shot up by over eight percent in the aftermarket. Since the beginning of the year, however, it is still down around 45 percent.

The majority of analysts are confident that United Health will soon overcome its difficulties. According to the financial service LSEG, 19 out of 28 experts currently recommend buying the share. Their average target price of 313.50 dollars is a good 15 percent higher than Thursday's closing price.

Four more buys

At steel producer $NUE (-0,32 %) Nucor, Berkshire held 6.6 million shares worth 857 million dollars as at June 30. At the house building company $DHI (-0,53 %) DR Horton amounted to 191 million dollars, at the outdoor advertising company $US5128152007 Lamar Advertising to 142 million dollars and $ALLE (-0,15 %) Allegion, a manufacturer of locking systems, to 112 million dollars.

All four shares are rather insignificant in Berkshire's portfolio. Together they are only worth 1.3 billion dollars - just 0.5 percent of the total portfolio.

The most important position that was increased, on the other hand, is the oil company $CVX (+1,29 %) Chevron. Berkshire increased its position here for the first time since the fourth quarter of 2023. It grew by just under three percent.

Berkshire also increased its position in $POOL (+0,94 %) Pool, which claims to be the world's leading distributor of swimming pool accessories (up 136 percent), as well as beverage manufacturer $STZ (+3,85 %) Constellation Brands (up eleven percent), the aerospace company $HEI (-1,37 %) Heico (up eleven percent) and the pizza chain $DPZ (+1,44 %) Dominos Pizza (up 0.5 percent).

Berkshire's equity portfolio continues to shrink

Sold 20 million $AAPL (-1,58 %) Apple shares and securities of $BAC (-2,25 %) Bank of America and $DHI (-0,53 %) D.R. Horton, and the company also completely divested itself of $TMUS (+5,39 %) T-Mobile US.

In the second quarter, Berkshire also sold shares in the cable television company $CHTR (+1,68 %) Charter Communications (down 46.5 percent), the healthcare group $DVA (+6,08 %) Davita (down 3.8 percent) and the media company $FWONA (-0,65 %) Liberty Media (2.5 percent).

Buffett also sold shares in Davita in the current quarter. Although Davita is still the tenth largest position in the Berkshire portfolio, it has shrunk by eight percent since March 31. Since the beginning of the year, it has even fallen by almost eleven percent.

$DHI (-0,53 %)

Forecasters are way off the mark again

Third-quarter earnings of USD 3.36 per share were well above expectations of USD 2.92. With sales of USD 9.23 billion, the company also exceeded analysts' estimates of USD 8.78 billion.

For the year as a whole, sales fell by 7.5% and profits by 18%. This is certainly not ideal, but the sector is a long way from a serious crisis. With an operating margin of 14.7% and a pre-tax profit of USD 1.4 billion, the company is still highly profitable.

There have been indications for some time that things are not quite so bad in the sector:

Toll Brothers: Crash oder Comeback? Krise oder nicht?

LGI Homes: Gelegenheit nach 50 % Kurssturz?

In the first nine months of the current financial year, D.R. Horton earned USD 8.53 per share. As the final quarter is usually particularly strong for D.R. Horton, earnings this year could trend towards USD 12 per share - far higher than the previous consensus estimate of USD 11.35 per share.

With earnings of USD 12 per share, D.R. Horton arrives at a forward P/E of 12.8, which is easily justifiable. However, the real potential arises from the fact that earnings are expected to rise significantly again in the coming financial year, which begins in October.

Consensus estimates are currently predicting an 8% jump in profits. In order to understand this, however, it is important to know that forecasters in this sector have been systematically too pessimistic for years. In some cases, annual profits have ended up being much higher than initially expected. This does not have to happen again, but it could.

Risks and side effects

The only thing that is somewhat dampening confidence is the tariffs. According to current estimates, building material prices are expected to rise by 6 to 10 % in 2025, mainly due to the tariffs introduced by the Trump administration.

These tariffs affect key building materials such as lumber, steel, aluminum and gypsum imported from countries such as Canada, Mexico and China. The US construction industry is likely to be particularly hard hit by these measures in the second half of the year, which could lead to a slowdown in the sector.

Added to this are potential supply chain problems and rising inflation, which will be fueled by the tariffs and at the same time prevent interest rate cuts

D.R. Horton share: chart from 23.07.2025, price: USD 153.50 - symbol: DHI | Source: TWS

The rise above USD 137 triggered a procyclical Kaufsignal was triggered. The first Kursziel at USD 154 was immediately cleared. Above USD 154, the path towards USD 166 and USD 179-182 would be clear.

If, on the other hand, the share returns to the USD 137-140 range, this could serve as an anticyclical Einstieg offer
