Moderna: Shares Plunge Over 25% After Apparent Leak of Phase 3 Melanoma Cancer Vaccine Data
⠀
• Reportedly leaked results show Moderna and Merck's $MRK personalized mRNA vaccine plus Keytruda reduced melanoma recurrence or death risk by 42% versus Keytruda alone.
• At two years, 82.2% of combination-treated patients remained alive and cancer-free versus 70% on Keytruda alone.
• Phase 3 trial enrolled 1,137 patients. Data reportedly appeared briefly on Oncology Central ahead of Saturday's planned ESMO presentation. Results remain unconfirmed.
Merck CUTS and Ahold Delhaize New Purchase
After $MRK (+1.66%) in collaboration with the partner
$MRNA (-0.09%) a a pleasant surprise from the Phase 3 trial on the cancer vaccine in combination with Keytruda , the stock has risen to a new all-time high.
I took profits on a little more than a third of my position because there is still no final approval yet. I’m holding onto two-thirds of my position because I’m still very convinced by Merck convinced .
$AD (+1.43%) I’ve just added this to my portfolio. I entered the position at a dividend yield of just under 4%.
Since Ahold Delhaize is currently navigating the challenging U.S. market , I expect the stock price to decline . I will therefore gradually buy more shares and build up my position in the company to my desired size.
This is just a guess on my part, and I’m often wrong!
Do you have Merck in your portfolio? And how are you handling it?

Merck and Moderna rise 3 X
$MRK (+1.66%) and $MRNA (-0.09%)
announced landmark positive topline results from their Phase 3 INTerpath-001 clinical trial. This represents the first successful Phase 3 trial for a personalized, mRNA-based cancer vaccine in medical history.
Core Announcement Details
- The Treatment: An individualized neoantigen therapy (INT) named intismeran (V940/mRNA-4157) combined with Merck’s standard immunotherapy, Keytruda
Trial Milestones: The combination regimen successfully hit its primary endpoint of recurrence-free survival (RFS)and a key secondary endpoint of distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS
key financials of the operation
cancer vaccine (intismeran/V940) collaboration features a 50/50 split of development costs and future profits, with Merck having paid a $250 million upfront fee. Analysts project the therapy could reach $16.8 billion in global sales by 2035, with initial melanoma treatment costs expected to mirror high-end immunotherapies like Keytruda.
Loss Has Declined Significantly
$MRNA (-0.09%) I had added it to my portfolio during the pandemic. (Just like $BNTX (-0.76%) ).
But then it went into a steep decline, and I was stuck with a huge loss for ages. Then today came the news (see @Raketentoni ) and suddenly it doubled.
I’d checked in on Moderna every now and then, and the analysts were always positive, so I kept holding onto it. But let’s be honest—I hadn’t believed it would double anymore.
So I’m closing this chapter now. You can do something meaningful with >€1,000, and there’s also a capital gains tax refund. Plus, I’m one step closer to my goal of streamlining my portfolio and getting rid of legacy holdings.
Moderna: Groundbreaking Phase 3 Success Could Transform mRNA Cancer Therapies
⠀
• Moderna and Merck report Phase 3 success for Intismeran + KEYTRUDA in melanoma. Both the primary endpoint, recurrence-free survival, and the key secondary endpoint, distant metastasis-free survival, were met. $MRNA is currently up about +90% in premarket trading.
• The implications could extend far beyond melanoma: The study provides important Phase 3 validation for the concept of personalized mRNA cancer vaccines. Intismeran is already being investigated for several other tumor types.
• Potential spillover effects / peers:
$MRK +8.5% — Moderna’s direct 50/50 partner on Intismeran.
$BNTX +16% — Developing its own personalized mRNA cancer vaccine platform with Roche/Genentech.
$MRVI +19.5% — mRNA “picks and shovels” via TriLink, CleanCap, and manufacturing technologies.
$ARCT +18.8% — An mRNA platform company that could benefit from broader validation of the technology.
$HURA +7.4% — Cancer vaccine exposure, including mRNA-related technologies.
$EVAX -5% — Special case: develops personalized neoantigen cancer vaccines, though peptide-based rather than mRNA-based. The stock initially rose by about +35% before the move was completely sold off.
Moderna Surges 100% Premarket After Phase 3 Melanoma Vaccine Success
⠀
• Moderna and Merck’s Phase 3 INTerpath-001 trial of intismeran plus KEYTRUDA met its primary endpoint of recurrence-free survival and key secondary endpoint of distant metastasis-free survival.
• The combination showed statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements versus KEYTRUDA alone in patients with completely resected Stage IIB-IV melanoma.
• The companies plan to present the data at an upcoming international medical meeting and engage regulators on filing submissions.
Moderna Up 70% in Pre-Market Trading Following Update
Investing.com -- Shares of Moderna Inc. $MRNA (-0.09%) saw their price jump by as much as 50% in premarket trading on Wednesday. This followed an announcement by the company and its partner Merck that a combination melanoma therapy outperformed Keytruda monotherapy in a Phase 3 trial.
The INTerpath-001 trial evaluated Intismeran Autogen, an investigational, mRNA-based personalized neoantigen therapy, in combination with Merck’s Keytruda in patients with completely resected Stage IIB–IV melanoma. The study met its primary endpoint of recurrence-free survival as well as a key secondary endpoint, distant metastasis-free survival.
The combination demonstrated statistically significant improvements in both measures compared to Keytruda alone in patients with completely resected cutaneous melanoma in stages IIB, IIC, III, or IV who had not previously received systemic therapy.
This is the first positive Phase 3 study result for an individualized neoantigen therapy and for an mRNA-based cancer therapy. The study is also the first Phase 3 trial to demonstrate a clinically meaningful improvement over Keytruda monotherapy in adjuvant therapy for patients with resected melanoma.
The safety profiles of intismeran and Keytruda were consistent with those from previous studies; no new safety signals were observed. The study will continue to evaluate other key secondary endpoints, including overall survival.
The companies plan to present the data at an upcoming international medical conference and submit the results to regulatory authorities.
Merck and Moderna are currently conducting nine Phase 2 and 3 clinical trials for various tumor types, including melanoma, non-small cell lung cancer, bladder cancer, and renal cell carcinoma.
