At the same time, the company remains unprofitable (net loss in Q2: $541 million), invested $28 billion in the first half of the year, and the lock-up periods expire in stages through 2027. What does SpaceX do—and how does the company make its money?
Company Description
The SpaceX stock (ISIN: US84615Q1031, WKN: A42D4F) represents Space Exploration Technologies, Elon Musk’s aerospace and satellite company. The initial public offering on the Nasdaq (ticker SPCX) took place on June 12, 2026, at $135 per share. In the second quarter of 2026, SpaceX generated revenue of $7.8 billion and reported a net loss of $541 million.
The business segments—and how SpaceX actually makes money:
Starlink: Satellite internet for residential and business customers, with approximately 12 million subscribers—twice as many as a year earlier. Starlink is the only profitable division and provides the foundation for the new mobile communications business: The FCC has approved Starlink Mobile with up to 15,000 satellites. Rocket launches (Falcon, Starship): Launches for governments and companies using reusable rockets, which provide a cost advantage over competitors. The 13th Starship test flight in July was successful, but the booster stage failed to land. AI and data centers: A growing, but so far loss-making, business into which SpaceX, along with its rocket operations, poured a large portion of the $28 billion in investments made in the first half of 2026. Morgan Stanley argues that the market has so far valued this segment at zero
Fundamental Analysis: How Much Speculation Is Already Factored Into SpaceX’s Stock Price?
Fundamental Analysis of SpaceX Stock (as of October 13, 2026)
A great deal: With a market capitalization of approximately 1.13 trillion EUR amid ongoing losses, the market continues to price in high growth; a P/E ratio cannot be calculated. Earnings per share in 2026 are estimated at $0.15, which would result in a P/E ratio of over 1,000 based on that figure. Anyone valuing SpaceX must therefore rely on growth projections and scenarios rather than traditional financial metrics.
Growth: Revenue rose by 92% to $7.8 billion in the second quarter. HSBC expects revenue to double to $38.2 billion by 2026, but anticipates GAAP losses through 2027 and positive free cash flow no earlier than 2030. By comparison: According to Börse Express, established aerospace and defense stocks such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and RTX are trading at P/E ratios ranging from about 19 to 50.
Losses and Investments: The net loss in the second quarter was $541 million, following over $4 billion in the first quarter and $4.94 billion for the full year 2025. In the first half of 2026, $28 billion was invested in missiles, AI, and data centers. My analysis of Palantir Aktie, and when it comes to AI infrastructure, it’s worth taking a look at the Bloom Energy Aktie.
Mobile communications as a new lever: With Starlink Mobile and Grain’s spectrum, SpaceX aims to target mobile phones directly. The deal still requires FCC approval, so a nationwide network hasn’t been built yet. My analysis of the Telekom Aktie.
Government Contracts and Politics: SpaceX relies heavily on U.S. government contracts, which provides predictability but also creates political concentration risk. You can also see how such government contracts drive stock prices in the Rheinmetall Aktie.
Lock-up periods: Following the first releases (August 6: 911.5 million shares; August 20: 319 million), additional tranches will follow through 2027. The dates vary depending on the source; Elon Musk is locked in until June 12, 2027. More freely tradable shares can weigh on the stock price, as was the case in July and August.
SpaceX Stock Price Targets and Forecast for 2026
How is the SpaceX stock price performing? (As of October 13, 2026)
According to wallstreet-online, the average price targets for SpaceX stock are $227.54 (range: $118 to $450), and approximately 82% of the 37 analysts recommend buying. Morgan Stanley (Outperform) cites $300, Pivotal Research (Buy) cites $230 following an increase from $220, Susquehanna (Neutral) cites $173 following an increase from $144, and HSBC (Hold) cites $115. The range is unusually wide because analysts have very different views on the company’s AI and mobile business segments. The 2026 forecast hinges on the Q3 results—which, according to market data, are scheduled to be released on November 3—and on the FCC’s decision regarding the spectrum deal.
The stock’s price history illustrates this volatility: After its initial public offering at $135, the stock reached a record high of $226.48 on June 16, fell below the offering price in July to an annual low of $9,105.23, and has since recovered to approximately $157 (+13% in one month).
Key price levels:
52-week high and all-time high since the IPO: $225.64 (intraday, June 16, 2026)Current price: approx. $157 (Oct. 13, 2026, intraday), closing price on Oct. 12: $163.42 First resistance level: $172.60 Second resistance level: $190.64 Analyst price targets: Average: $227.54, Morgan Stanley: $300, Pivotal: $230, Susquehanna: $173, HSBC: $115 Critical downside level: Closing prices below $150
Chart Analysis
News flow and the expiration of lock-up periods are currently driving the SpaceX stock higher. Most recently, it bounced lower off the $170 resistance level. However, it is well supported there. I expect buying interest to emerge at that level. From there, the stock could climb to $190.62. If selling pressure intensifies and the stock breaks below $150 sustainably, a further sell-off to $130.43 is realistic.

Conclusion: Should you buy SpaceX stock now or wait?
My Assessment: Buy
Should you buy SpaceX now? From an operational standpoint, there are many positives for the stock: revenue up 92%, 12 million Starlink subscribers, an approved cellular network, and approximately 82% buy recommendations. At the same time, a valuation of approximately 1.13 trillion EUR is offset by ongoing losses, high investments, and lock-up periods that will release additional shares by 2027. October 9 demonstrated just how quickly a single catalyst can shake up an entire industry: Telekom fell by 8.0%, while SpaceX rose.
Those who believe in Starlink Mobile and the AI narrative will find the stock trading at around $150—about 25% below its all-time high—with an average analyst price target of $227.54. Those who remain cautious will wait for the Q3 earnings report on November 3 and the lock-up expiration dates, and watch to see if the stock holds its support level at $150.

Why has SpaceX stock fallen from its record high?
There is no single identifiable cause. The fact is: Following the initial public offering on June 12, 2026, at $135, the stock reached a record high of 194.46 EUR on June 16, fell below the offering price in July, and hit a yearly low of 91.04 EUR. This range shows just how differently the market views the potential of AI and mobile communications.
What is the forecast for SpaceX stock in 2026?
For 2026, analysts expect SpaceX to see continued revenue growth and ongoing losses. HSBC anticipates revenue will double to $38.2 billion, with GAAP losses continuing through 2027 and positive free cash flow not expected until 2030 at the earliest. In the second quarter, revenue rose 92% to $7.8 billion. Earnings per share for 2026 are estimated at $0.15, so there is no meaningful P/E ratio.
When will SpaceX release its next earnings report?
According to wallstreet-online, the next quarterly report (Q3 2026) is scheduled for November 3, 2026; however, the company has not yet confirmed this date. The Q2 report was released on August 4, 2026.

What does SpaceX’s spectrum purchase mean for the mobile communications market?
According to reports, SpaceX is purchasing a nationwide 800 MHz spectrum package from Grain Management for $8 billion in cash; other sources do not specify a price. The deal still requires FCC approval. At the same time, the FCC approved Starlink Mobile with up to 15,000 satellites. Musk called the spectrum the final crucial piece of the puzzle for a nationwide network. U.S. network operators and Telekom came under pressure following the announcement, but SpaceX still has to build a nationwide network.

The lock-up periods expire in stages through 2027. On August 6, 911.5 million shares were released, and on August 20, another 319 million.
