Good morning on Sunday - PKV or GKV?
A difficult and comprehensive topic directly on Sunday morning.
The partially communicated savings rates and income suggest that this topic affects everyone here at Getquin. However, I am of the opinion that it is rather a privilege to be faced with the above written question. On the subject matter:
#gkv - Statutory health insurance:
- For whom? Compulsory insurance for employees with an income below the compulsory insurance limit.
- BenefitsStandardized benefit package with minimum standards for all insured persons.
- Solidarity principle: Contributions based on income and shared between employee and employer.
- Choice of doctor: There is limited freedom of choice, but comprehensive care through the network of contracted physicians.
- Contributions: A percentage of gross income, limited by the income threshold.
#pkv - Private health insurance:
- For whom? Mainly for professionals with a very high income above the compulsory insurance limit (currently 66,600 €/year), or civil servants, as well as the self-employed.
- Benefits: Individually customizable tariffs with extended scope of benefits and additional comfort benefits.
- Choice of doctor: You can choose freely and often get a specialist appointment faster.
- Contributions: The amount of the premiums depends on age, state of health and the selected scope of insurance.
- Premium increases: There is the possibility of premium increases, but these vary from individual to individual. At the same time, there is the possibility of distributions at the end of the year.
Advantages and disadvantages of the respective insurances:
GKV:
AdvantagesSolidarity principle, comprehensive benefits package, contributions dependent on income.
Co-insurance of family members possible free of charge.
DisadvantagesLimited choice of doctors, longer waiting periods, limited scope of benefits compared to private health insurance.
PKV:
Advantages: Individually customizable benefits, free choice of doctor, often shorter waiting times, additional comfort benefits.
Disadvantages: Higher premiums depending on individual factors, possible premium increases over time.
Co-insurance of family members often costly.
Opaque contract design with clauses and restrictions.
What is the best decision for me?
As always, this question cannot be answered in general terms.
The Getquin census, as well as the partially communicated savings rates, do suggest that 120% of Getquin users have already dealt with the question.
Due to the high assessment threshold, this decision is in any case a privilege from my point of view.
Both private and statutory health insurance have advantages and disadvantages, depending on the individual needs and life circumstances. can be weighted differently.
Private health insurance offers more flexibility, customizable benefits and often shorter waiting periods.. However, this can be accompanied by higher premiums and there is a risk of premium increases over time. There is also the risk of high premiums in old agewhich, however, can be counteracted with a contribution at a young age.
Statutory health insurance, on the other hand, is based on the solidarity principle and offers a solid basic care at lower premiums. Families can benefit from family insurance as long as certain income limits are not exceeded. Nevertheless, the freedom to choose doctors is limited and there may be longer waiting times.
No matter which health insurance option you ultimately choose, the most important thing is that you take care of your health and that of your family!
Please note that I am not an expert in this field and would be very happy to exchange the two options.
