I bought this share at the beginning of the year as a Japan exposure. It quickly made gains of around 20% and then tended to move sideways. At the same time, the Japanese stock markets went up and down, and Shimano proved to be very stable (low beta). Then it gained again and I was up over 30% for a while. However, Shimano has now lost almost 17% since the end of September and has therefore fallen below the 200-day line again. I cannot determine the reasons for the price loss with certainty, but the following factors could have played a role.

Declining bicycle sales and high inventories and profit decline
Unexpected costs of over 114 million $ due to the product recall of the Hollowtech crankset

Fundamentally, you have an excellent balance sheet and I remain confident in Shimano and their moat. However, as I cannot estimate how much further they will fall, I will now start a savings plan.

Do any of you have an idea why Shimano has not benefited at all from the upswing in the Japanese stock market? Unfortunately, I can't find any reasons on my own and hope someone of you has an idea.

I've been getting these "hopeful vibes" from Shimano for years. This has been a thing at least since the Corona era, but also before that, where everyone who invested had their hopes up when they "suddenly" came across them. I'm somehow not surprised. I have my, admittedly not entirely conclusive, not generally recognized and not business-like theory, but still "Too big for surprises." The investment ideas, i.e. "exceptional growth", outperform against competitors, development pipeline, etc., have simply been speaking a different language than "buy" for share price rockets for years.
I think most investors fall into the "I see it every day, so it must be successful" belief. Coca Cola is not a share price rocket either, but at least for many it delivers the faith food dividend, which Shimano also does, but with exchange rates etc. it is anything but benevolent like Coca Cola.

What is your opinion of Shimano.

Am coveted angler and also MTB driver ... I think that even in the future Shimano plays a big role. In both areas Shimano is top represented in terms of quality and sales volume. Almost no bike leaves the tape without a Shimanokomponente.

In the meantime, we have arrived at just under -50%.

How do you see the current valuation and the future of Shimano? Will it go even masiv lower?

I have started to save Shimano as a savings plan. Huge market share and there is an absolute trend towards alternative mobility. The bicycle is a big part of that.

I've been wondering the last few days why my entire watchlist is red, with the exception of Shimano? This morning it was the other way around. Everything is rising slightly, Shimano has fallen a bit.

Is this due to the time difference Japan/EU?

I think they presented the quarterly figures yesterday, which probably didn't go down as well with some people as they had hoped, as it looks :D

Opinion for $BIKE

I invest in various companies from the bicycle industry, Accell Group, Shimano and since their IPO also Bike24.

The market will go up, as long as environmentally friendly infrastructures are an issue in Europe and the rest of the world, the demand of bikes will increase.

People are switching to bikes and are willing to pay money. The more bikes in circulation, the higher the part demand.

I like both the ambitions and the achievements of Bike24 so far and remain bullish!
