Depot of a 20 year old electrician

Today is my 20th birthday and I thought I'd share my portfolio with the GetQuin community.

Last week I passed my final apprenticeship exam as an electrical and building services engineer with a special module in building control technology with an excellent result.

I first got involved with shares and ETFs when I was about 14 years old through various YouTube videos and had already developed a great interest in them. I made my first small investment at the age of 16, which at the time was around €600 in Bitcoin via the Swiss provider Relai (my average purchase price is €23,500)

On my 18th birthday, I opened a securities account with Trade Republic and invested in shares for the first time and immediately set up a savings plan. I continued to save and invest diligently. My savings rate was around €500 per month. I invested in 4 ETFs ($VWCE (+0.17%)
$VHYL (-0.44%)
$IUIT (+2.7%)
$XAIX (+0.07%) ) and various individual shares.

From time to time I added a bit more crypto to the portfolio, but I didn't buy any more this year as the crypto weighting in the portfolio became too high for me and my focus is more on shares and ETFs.

The gold in my portfolio comes from gifts for my birth and first communion.

As I will be joining the Austrian Red Cross as a civilian servant next week and will then only earn just under €950 per month, the savings rate will be reduced to €200 for the time being and will only be invested in $VWCE (+0.17%) and $XAIX (+0.07%) saved. When I see how I manage with the money, I will increase or decrease the savings rate accordingly.

I would be very interested to hear what you think of my portfolio and would also be very happy to receive suggestions for improvement.

Happy birthday - great achievement! 🥳
I think it's good that you want to expand the shares of $VWCE.

Congratulations on your successful graduation!
Basically, your top 3 positions would be enough, but if it's fun... The main thing is that you learn.

Two questions:
1. where do you actually want to go with your portfolio? Do you have a goal?
2. why are you investing passively in B&H and not actively, e.g. with a momentum strategy?

@Epi I don't have a direct goal: to build up assets and retire earlier if possible. Just the typical motivations.
I do B&H because I don't have a lot of work and headaches. Would you recommend I try a momentum strategy?

@market_maestro_68 Without a quantified target, it is difficult or even impossible to find an optimal strategy. B&H seems easy in a bull market, but is psychologically the most difficult strategy in a bear market. I mean real bear markets with 50-80% market losses and 80-95% in individual stocks. They actually come every one or two decades.

Before your investment career really takes off, I would definitely recommend that you familiarize yourself with various strategies and then decide what is best for you. And no: core-satellite is not yet a strategy, but an allocation. Most people use B&H equities/ETFs (or at least claim to) - this is a passive single-asset class strategy, quite risky in the short term and moderately profitable in the long term.

If you want more, just read up on Dual Momentum. Trading for 5 minutes once a month should keep the work to a minimum.
There are of course other simple and efficient strategies, especially for private investors. Whether you implement one or more of them is up to you, but you should know the options so that you can decide. 👍
@Epi Thank you for your detailed answer!
I'll read up on it and look into it a bit more.
Have a nice week

@market_maestro_68 Thank you, too!

Very good, but make sure you have fewer positions (no position <5%), often works better.

I see considerable overlaps in AI and Big Data as well as S&P 500 Infotech, not to say that the two are more or less the same, I would limit myself to one. Otherwise, stable portfolio and keep up the good work!
@davidk3112 Thanks for your comment
I have already removed the Infotech from the savings plan!
Have a nice day
