100K Milestone at Age 22

It happened exactly one week after my 22nd birthday that I ran the 100K mark. While I’m at it, I’d also like to introduce you to my portfolio and my strategy.

About Me:

I just turned 22 and have been investing since I was 18—back then as an apprentice with a modest salary. Now I have a full-time job and can set aside between €1,000–€1,500 . I’m deeply involved in investing and would say it’s become a hobby for me because I’m so interested in it. That’s why it’s even more rewarding when it pays off in the end.

My Strategy:

At first, I had everything invested in an ETF ( $VWCE (-0,24%) ), but I quickly realized that this approach was too boring for me and didn’t yield enough returns. Now I focus mostly on individual stocks, though I’ll keep the ETF as a foundation. My portfolio is very tech-heavy -heavy, which is intentional, as I see the greatest opportunities in that sector. I actually only go for growth stocks to achieve the highest possible returns. The few dividend-paying stocks are leftovers from when I first started. Except for the $EOAN (-0,41%) stock, which I contribute €500 to annually—though my employer matches €360 of that. I recently invested heavily in software ( $NOW (-4,09%) ) and data centers ( $IREN (+6,54%) ) because I see high potential in these sectors.

I’ve also invested in cryptocurrency but, as you can see, I failed at it very quickly. I simply lacked the knowledge, but I was well aware that it’s a very risky sector. However, I won’t sell at a loss—I’ll just ride it out. If my altcoin positions drop to zero, so be it, but who knows—maybe I’ll still come out of it with a small return. It’s different with $BTC (+0,45%) —I still see potential there and continue to contribute to it monthly.

My savings plans:

50€ $VWCE (-0,24%) (Just to take advantage of the Save-Back feature at Trade Republic)

250€ $BTC (+0,45%)

Future Goals:

I’ll keep doing what I’ve been doing and try to maintain my savings rate at €1,000–€1,500. I’ll continue to identify individual stocks where I see great potential and will then invest in them in tranches.

In addition to my investment portfolio, I’d also like to buy my first condo within the next two years and then rent it out.

I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into my financial journey, and I’d really appreciate any tips or suggestions for improvement.

And how much startup capital did your parents give you? :D

@Sithz Actually, it was 0€—I earned it all myself :)

@SimonInvest04 And how does that work? 😃 Let's say you started an apprenticeship when you were 18. Your salary is about 500–600€. Let’s make it 800. That would be 38,000€ over 4 years. You’ll probably have spent some money on living expenses and fixed costs like your cell phone, car, sports, etc. Let’s say you saved 1/3 of that. So about 13,000€.
Where did the rest come from?

@Sithz I can summarize it roughly. I started my apprenticeship at 15, and I’d already saved up a bit and was making about €1,300. Then, by the time I was 18 and a half, I was already working full-time and earning a full salary. And since I was still living at home until a year ago, I had virtually no expenses and was able to put almost everything into my investment account.

@SimonInvest04 Living at home with your parents is still the best life hack for building wealth ;-)

@Krush82 Yeah, I did that for 8 years, too—saved 130k. Unfortunately, my parents raised me to play it safe, so I never bought any stocks.

@Krush82 sure, for this part I agree u can save a lot of money (I do that actually) but now my life is not compatible anymore, we don’t have the same goal, I want to be alone, eat at what time I want, invite my friends for night party…

@Sithz Anything is possible—at that age, I was already making over 100k without a cent of support, and four years later, I was making 400k+.

Respect! I didn't hit my first 100k until I was 25, but I wasn't investing at your age either :p

Impressive performance. I’ll probably “only” reach my first 100k in my late 20s.

All in all, you did everything right by making some great stock picks. And having a portfolio like that at 22 is really impressive. Keep it up :)

It really gets on my nerves that you keep reminding me I should have started investing a lot sooner.
Great, keep it up! ✌🏼

Well deserved—hats off!

Okay, the lesson to be learned: Don't start with €500 (Palantir, Siemens Energy, ...), but rather with 5-10k from now on 😎

@asset_sage_smmad Yes, that's true. Unfortunately, the fear was still too great…

"Too boring" is a matter of perspective—as long as you can handle the losses that are bound to happen over the years when investing in individual stocks. I started out investing only in individual stocks, and now I really appreciate my “boring” but effective ETF savings plan. I think it’s all about the mix—achieving excess returns over decades is unrealistic and costs time and nerves.
imagem de perfil
@Sand That's true, but I do think it's realistic that I can outperform the average 6–7% return from an ETF by investing in individual stocks and doing my own research. Plus, I'm really interested in stocks and finance, and I find it more exciting when I can have a little more control over things myself.

Congrats on hitting 100k. When I was 22, I spent every weekend drinking and gambling. At your age, I’d probably focus entirely on building wealth and skip heavyweights like EON, Realty, Telefonica, and Coca-Cola—but that’s certainly a matter of personal preference. But you did explain, at least in part, why you hold them. 37 stocks is still okay, but I’d be careful not to end up with excessive diversification in the long run—you already have enough of that given the number of stocks and the All World index.

@Dirty30 Yes, that's true—I've really accumulated quite a few holdings over time. Sooner or later, the crypto altcoins will disappear from my portfolio anyway, and I'll probably close out the smaller positions as well.

That's almost the best 1% of your age group, I think.
