Happy New Year 🎈🎆🎊

I have a question, we are expecting a son and I would like to save one or two ETFs for him.

I have 2 questions.

Should I open an extra custody account for him?

as my wife saves the ftse all world whether there is a similar ETF but not the same one. Or do you say do nothing save it 2 times.

And if I open an extra custody account for him, I would like to save an ETF that pays out dividends.

$TDIV (-0,05%) I'm saving this one and it's doing well, do you know any others that are performing well? And can you recommend?

I save for my children in the traditional way at $VWCE. I may also set up a savings plan at $BTC during the course of the year.

Please do not invest in distributing ETFs at that age.
Do something good for your child and invest in the Nasdaq100 $CSNDX and some Bitcoin $BTC.

@MrSchnitzel The idea behind the distributions was that sooner or later he would be able to use up the €1,000 tax-free allowance.

@Ardo concentrate on growth - you'll get much more out of it in the long term.

If I were in a situation where I had offspring, I would do it this way:
As simple and as little effort as possible (KISS principle). e.g. $VWCE $ETF210 $SPYY or e.g. only on industrialized nations.

### My thoughts on Extra-Depot (i.e. Junior-Depot)
The money / assets belong to the child, i.e. if something like Bafög is pending, this could be problematic. However, my child would have such a head start financially that I wouldn't care about the Bafög in that case. If necessary, I would give my child "pocket money".
I would still tend towards the extra deposit, because then it is clearly separated from the start and legally belongs to the child.

### In your own custody account
I would open my own custody account (in my name) and only save in the ETF for the child. Clear separation from my pension provision.

@MoneyISnotREAL That sounds good.
How would you invest in these 3 etfs?

And the 2nd question would be which portfolio would you recommend? I already use Scalable and Trade Republic.
I'm thinking about opening an account with my wife that we can use together at comdirect and at the same time a custody account there or do you have another broker you can recommend?
Thanks for the tips 🙏🙏🥳
@Ardo Well, I don't have a child and I don't have anything in the pipeline, but that doesn't mean you're allowed to think about it 😇

Your child has an investment horizon that will help so much.
For me, effort should be as low as possible:
- Standing order to clearing account / debit from current account
- Savings plan on ONE ETF (e.g. one of the above)

If I were in your situation, I would do it as follows, depending on the variant:

### Child custody account:
Choose a broker that offers a children's custody account. TradeRepublic introduced this recently, I believe. Otherwise, many online banks have one on offer (> e.g. look at Finanztip or Finanzfluss in the securities account comparison).
I myself am with ING, so I would probably open the children's custody account with ING.

### Own securities account
Choose a custody account that has NO custody account fees and a free savings plan on a broadly diversified global ETF.
In this case, e.g. ING, ComDirect, Scalable, TradeRepublic.

https://www.finanztip.de/wertpapierdepot/

I only use ComDirect myself for overnight money, but I know a few people who have a custody/current account there. So far I've only heard positive things. The only "negative" thing is that you should take a look at the fee structure (Etf savings plan, custody account fees, ...).

Just as food for thought:
- 200 € monthly savings rate
- Term 60 years
- Return p.a. 6%
= € 1.263 million in assets (before tax, after costs) in 2086 🚀😇

Personally, I would only save one at the beginning unless you start directly with 10k then you could save 70% of the $VWCE and 30% of the $TDVI. It should definitely be a broadly diversified one.

If it's just one, which one would you choose?
