On the road to financial freedom - January update 📊

You go on vacation and "miss" the biggest gold/silver run in recent history and yesterday's probably biggest silver crash in decades!

Until the day before yesterday, I had the best start to a new year on the stock market since I started trading. Up 120,000 euros or almost +10% within a few weeks. And on Thursday + Friday, the market went down again with the biggest daily losses ... -90,000 euros in two days. Both extremes right at the beginning of the year! But in the end there is still a small plus 😉

👉🏻 January:

Start: 1,336,908 euros + 400 cash

End: 1,368,240 euros + 100 cash

Deposit: 2,000 euros

Profit: +29,032 euros (+2.17%)

It will certainly come as no surprise to you, but the high volatility in the portfolio is due to the high weighting of my gold mining shares. When precious metal prices rise, you benefit particularly strongly, but you are also at the forefront on the downside. K92 Mining ($KNT (-7,83 %)), Equinox Gold ($EQX (-10,37 %) ) and Euro Sun Mining ($ESM (-5,12 %) ) have all lost double digits in two days. But the bottom line is that we are still higher than at the beginning of the year! 👍🏼

Apart from that, there have only been minor changes in my portfolio. Among other things, I bought $SAP (+0,64 %) Ubisoft $UBI (-6,5 %) (see post) and PayPal $PYPL (+0,11 %) . I sold my position in $DTG (-0,11 %) (Daimler Truck) and partially sold $PUMA (-0 %) and Accenture ($ACN (+2,23 %)).

Despite the turbulent end to the week, I am satisfied with the start to the year. I have already realized around 5,000 euros in capital gains (including dividends). I hope that the pace will pick up a little more, but let's see. You shouldn't get too greedy! 😊

➡️🆓: On my way towards 4 million total assets, the target achievement rate is now 44.5%.

I hope you've also had a good start on the stock market and have weathered the upheavals on the gold/silver market well!

See you in a few days! 😊

First of all, congratulations 🙌
I don't know if you've shared it before!
Would you like to say how you defined your goal of 4 million?

@Wealth-Accelerator There is actually no sophisticated calculation behind it. It's more of a rough estimate that I'm aiming for.

- Estimated cost of living (with potential future family), 100,000 euros net.

-> Approx. 150,000 euros investment income required

I reckon with approx. 4-5% inflation-adjusted return p.a.

=3.3 million euros

At the same time, I would like to continue building up assets so that I can also increase my standard of living in the long term. Even if, of course, 100,000 euros a year would be anything but the poverty line. Also, returns cannot always be planned. There can be a lean period of one or two years and you still have to live somehow. Hence the safety buffer that makes up the 4 million.

Of course, the whole thing is also based on the assumption that I and my potential partner will no longer work. That won't happen in reality either. But I would at least like to have the freedom to do so.

At least that's how I arrived at the 4 million figure. But I know this derivation is open to attack! 😉

@Part_Time_Joe
No, I don't think that should be a point of attack at all.
I'm still struggling with what point I should push my assets to, then wait if necessary and then increase my lifestyle.
I have the 1.8 million mark in mind. From then on, I'd like to incorporate the first withdrawals (approx. 2%) into my life and then gradually increase my withdrawals depending on my overall performance, with the overall goal of having assets in the mid-single-digit millions at some point.

Thank you for your transparency and days like this are part of investing in ETFs for more than just the long term.

@Multibagger That's how it is! Big profits usually go hand in hand with big losses. But you usually only get to see one side of the coin, especially on the internet! 😉

@Part_Time_Joe yes, that's why I'm happy about everyone who follows my example here. I also think it's completely normal. Everyone knows that those who only post profits are faking the success story. That doesn't exist.

Strong, financial freedom with 4 million sounds like a good goal. Do you want to stop working completely then?

@Psychedelic_Sunflower I want to have the choice not to have to do it anymore. But I don't think I would give it up. But most likely something else and only part-time 😊
