The regulator Ofwat 11.07.2024:
"Ofwat plans record £88 billion upgrade for cleaner rivers and seas and better services for customers
The average bill increase for water and sewerage companies will be £19 per year over five years (£94 in total), excluding inflation. The companies' business plans included increases averaging £144 over five years. Ofwat's interventions have reduced the level of bill increases proposed by the companies. For example, Thames Water's proposed increase of £191 was reduced to £99 by 2030; Severn Trent's proposed increase of £144 was reduced to £93."
To fund investment in the UK's ageing infrastructure, water bills are likely to rise by £19 a year, Ofwat explained.
This means that the average household water bill across the UK will rise from £441 to £535 by 2030, an increase of 21%.
This is below the average that Thames Water, United Utilities and other major water companies have asked Ofwat to set.
Ofwat set out the plans in the regulator's draft determination, which sets the agenda for all UK water companies for the next five years.

My foray into water shares has so far been a good idea that I will continue to pursue
Severn Trent $SVT (-1.85%) has increased its dividend to shareholders after profits rose by a fifth last year, despite the company's wastewater pollution rising by a third in 2023.
The FTSE-listed company, which supplies water to much of Wales and the West of England, increased its final dividend by 9% to 70.1p a share, while profits rose to £201.3m.

Small addendum
The industry regulator Ofwat will meet soon to decide on the increase in draft legislation between 2025 and 2030. The draft proposals are due to be announced on June 12.
Severn Trent wants to invest 12.9 billion pounds and increase customer bills by 35.7 percent.
Between 2020 and 2025 the average annual bill for Severn Trent was £402.63, for the next five years the average would be £546.35 if Ofwat's business plan is accepted.

Our proposed final dividend of 64.09 pence (2021/22: 61.28 pence) is in line with our inflation-indexed dividend policy and is payable on July 14, 2023.
Severn Trent Water's RoRE for the year was 12.2%, 830 basis points above the base yield of 3.9%. The outperformance resulted primarily from our customers' ODI premiums of £53m, with around 80% of our measures being premiums and financing, reflecting our continued low cash interest costs and the impact of higher inflation in the year compared to Ofwat's final determination assumption.
