Changed providers. Deutsche Telekom is now in my portfolio đŸ“±đŸ†•

In the case of $CMCSA (-1.55%) I felt lost my
lost. đŸ„€

I’ve held the stock for over two years in my portfolio, hoping that they would rebound. But the weak/stagnant business outweighs the business that’s doing well.⚖

My problem with Comcast is the massive loss of customers and also that it’s too much in one ... TV, internet, cable, broadband, streaming, media, theme parks, etc

It’s hard to determine what Comcast actually is. That led ultimately to yet another spin-off in the near future. But I’m out.

As a telecommunications investor , I think you’re $DTE (+2.48%) . While Comcast’s numbers are flattening out, Deutsche Telekom’s numbers seem to be growing
 đŸ“¶

Deutsche Telekom is also much more focused on expansion, whereas Comcast is strugglesto water . 🌊

That’s why I sold Comcast sold, the tax refund , and used the proceeds $DTE (+2.48%) and diversify the tax refund into the portfolio.📈

What do you think of Comcast or Deutsche Telekom?đŸ“±

$DTE It's in my portfolio and will stay there. The current price isn't bad. I don't think you can go too far wrong with this one. It pays a nice dividend, too.

It’s worth giving it a try at this price. It’s a sector that’s hard to gauge—one I’ve moved away from, having sold my holdings in $VZ, $FNTN, and, some time ago during a temporary rally, $DTE as well. The dividends have been a nice perk over the years.

@Dividendenopi I definitely want to stay invested in the telecom sector. But I don't want to bet on the losers. In my opinion, DTE is one of the winners. I'm also invested in $VZ... The company is growing very slowly organically, but Comcast customers are fleeing to Verizon, among others.

@Dividendenopi I used to own Verizon stock, too. I sold it two and a half years ago for €38; now it's trading at €40. So it hasn't really been doing that well the last few years. But I'm still invested through $TDIV.

@Dividendenopi What was your reason for leaving?
‱‱

@PoorDad Overall, slow growth and cautious forecasts. Yes, stable earnings, but the stocks—especially Verizon—seem to react too strongly to news like a decline in new subscribers. They’re too sensitive for my taste. And Freenet is fundamentally too weak for me.

@Dividendenopi I totally get your point! When Comcast announced the spin-off, the stock shot up 20%, and within no time at all, it all crashed again—and kept falling deeper and deeper. Comcast even warned a few weeks ago that customer losses are rising more sharply again, after it was thought that the customer retention issue had stabilized in the previous quarter. And this is despite their efforts to retain and attract customers with price promotions. All in vain. To be honest, I’ve lost all hope at the moment, and I hope for the sake of all other CMCSA shareholders that the company will somehow turn things around.

I've invested in $DTE myself at around €28. At the current price, it's certainly not a bad investment. But I doubt you'll be able to beat $CMCSA over the next 3–5 years.

@Keineui Comcast is losing customers in droves
several hundred thousand customers per sector and per quarter (emphasis on “several” and “per”)—and they’re struggling with it. Meanwhile, DTE is steadily gaining new customers. Do you think Comcast will become competitive over the next 3–5 years?
‱‱
I've also had a small position for years. I bought in at €22. I've thought about adding to it from time to time, but I could never bring myself to do it.

@Solitair Why couldn't you bring yourself to do it, or what would be a clear sign for you to buy more?
‱‱
@PoorDad So I ended up buying something else—mostly ETFs. It was really just a gut feeling, and looking at how the price has performed over the last few months, it wasn't such a bad call after all.
These days, though, I'm in a phase where I'm telling myself I'm not going to buy anything at all.

@Solitair When will I retire?
‱‱
@PoorDad I'm thinking about retiring at 65. Maybe—that would be in 12 years—I'll start working part-time at 50% when I'm 55. I found out that I'll still get my full pension...as long as the rules don't change. My job is actually pretty laid-back.
‱‱
This is the second time I've bought in this year, which isn't bad at the current price. However, I still fear the stock will remain in a trading range up to a maximum of about 34 euros.

@Schochi What did Mr. Kostolany always say? If you don't own the stocks when they fall, you won't own them when they rise either
 I prefer to own them

T-shares. You just have to have them. Ron Sommer and Manfred Krug said so, and if they say it, it must be true. 😉

@PoorDad Yeah, that was in 1996. The first copies cost 28.50 DM. Later on, I bought a few more. In the meantime, I had to put up with a lot of ridicule.

Edit: I just checked again. I wasn’t a high school student anymore—I was actually already in college. In any case, it was a loooong time ago.

I just had the AI quickly calculate the increase in value. (I was able to buy 300 shares, and on top of that, I received 30 loyalty shares after holding them for a certain period of time.)

Purchase price at the time (1996) approx. 4,295 €
Current value of the 330 shares approx. 9,521 €
Dividends paid (total) approx. 7,600 €
Total value today (portfolio + cash) approx. 17,121 €

Unfortunately, I'm not at all a fan of this move.

AI is all well and good, but I don't think it's right to do this at the expense of countless workers. Unfortunately, this is currently a trend among some German companies, which I think will come back to haunt them in 8–10 years.

@Alex_Invest95 I still couldn't bring myself to buy more Comcast, and I think Deutsche Telekom will perform far better... even if it doesn't, it wouldn't be that bad; DTE remains my fifth-smallest position for now. I also don’t think AI will cost that many jobs. Maybe it’s necessary, maybe not. We can’t know that right now, Alex.

@PoorDad Yeah, well, I can see why they'd make that trade—sure.

Everything else remains to be seen.
