The U.S. Justice Department is investigating UnitedHealth Group Inc (UNH) for possible criminal Medicare fraud, the Wall Street Journal reported citing people familiar with the matter.

The investigation is being led by the healthcare-fraud unit of the Justice Department's criminal division and has been ongoing since last summer.

Though specific allegations are unclear, the probe is focused on UnitedHealth's Medicare Advantage business practices, the report said.

The Journal noted that the investigation adds to other government inquiries into the company, including antitrust concerns and a civil review of its Medicare billing practices at its doctors' offices.

On Tuesday, UnitedHealth Group announced that its Chief Executive Officer Andrew Witty stepped down from the position due to personal reasons. Following this, the healthcare company appointed Stephen Hemsley as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. He was the company's Board chair in 2017.

Additionally, the company announced its decision to suspend its 2025 outlook, citing higher than expected medical expenditures. However, the company expects to return to growth in 2026.

I will not change anything in my plan. If the USD 300 mark holds at the end of the week, i.e. tomorrow evening, I will go long with leverage on Monday. If we are below it, I will keep my hands off.

@BamBamInvest it doesn't help to sell with a minus now makes no sense with such a large company.

@Max095 would see what comes out here, the timing of the news is a bit strange. I think it's old hat.

So Novo 2.0 after all, the day before yesterday I briefly considered whether to bet on a countermovement - good thing I didn't do it

@Hotte1909 Can you explain to me why you are comparing them with Novo Nordisk? I still don't understand your comparison. You need similarities. Do you see a lawsuit in the Medicare area as a similarity? I don't see it that way...

@Brateeee I'm talking about chart technology and there is definitely something in common

@Hotte1909 ok, I am fundamentally on the move.
profile image
@Brateeee yes, of course you can't compare them fundamentally. I'm well aware of that 😉

Looks a lot like market manipulation to me. Or why would WSJ already be informed but the company itself not? They also recently published an article about Tesla claiming that Elon Musk will be replaced as CEO

@Lvca I have a similar view and I believe that after the sell-off this decline will be bought promptly with more clarity and due to the fact that we are heavily oversold.

Well thank you for the info...
I had assumed that such a CEO resignation didn't come from somewhere and that there was more going on. But I didn't look into it any further because they are not an investment for me in a crash anyway

@lawinvest We probably won't know what the real reason is, but the old CEO has taken over again and these accusations can hardly come at this time by chance. $UNH is so firmly anchored in the healthcare system with 400,000 jobs, making it one of the largest employers. I think that will soon subside, but we'll see.
You are so good!
@lawinvest The investigation into the medicare fraud has been ongoing since last summer.

@Aequitas right, probably nothing new, therefore exaggerated in my opinion, but we'll see if there's anything new/true about it.

After all, many have only just bought UH shares after the first price slump in the hope of a rebound.
However, this should only be attempted with companies that are not experiencing structural or entrepreneurial price losses.

In the case of UH, it is therefore a good idea not to jump in at the moment.

Oversold quality shares will certainly rise again. However, it may also be a signal that the valuation is too high and that there are problems in the company and that more investors are pulling out.

Great, I actually wanted to set a stop loss at 260€ to limit the loss to -80€... now I don't know what to do 👀 I got in yesterday with a small position of 860

@sakamotoo Well, what has changed fundamentally and why did you get in? I assume that it is a long-term investment based on your statement? Then be patient and draw your own conclusions. I see such news rather calmly, especially after the strong 2 sell-offs and the investigations should already be from last year. Are just above the next support and have prices from the Corona low . I am more on the buyer side here .

@BamBamInvest I deliberately got in to trade the stock on a 2-6 week horizon, but also with a stop loss if the price falls to the €260 mark. Which of course has now been triggered. 80 euro loss but still just about manageable 👀
profile image
I have now placed another limit order at €250.
The figures are correct and I am not critical of the change in CEO,
Hemsley has been with the company since 2006 and will get it back on track.

@Dividenden_Monteur I completely agree with you, stock up too

I have bought. The fundamentals are right. Unemotional.

@pipo49 I agree 💪
@pipo49 I am also invested and will consider buying in small tranches. I am convinced of the long-term development.

Brutal! 50% price losses in one month and this for an absolute blue chip share that was even considered defensive due to its sector.

This proves once again the importance of diversification when investing in individual stocks.

Nevertheless, it's madness, which is normally more familiar from companies that fail such as Wirecard, Credit Suisse,...

@Mister_ultra That's right, that's why it will recover. Too firmly anchored in the system and 400,000 employees. I love buying in a panic (a bit macabre, I know) but when do you want to collect such companies if not now. If you want to have them in your portfolio .
profile image
Here we are buttering up, now we are moving into the area of support, if it falls further we will buy more.

Under investigation. Fraud. CEO change.

LULZ...will be staying well clear of this. Good luck to all those brave enough to trust "Fundamentals". 🤣
profile image
There is a good chance that they will not recover. Bill Ackman has already summed it up well.
profile image
@TaxesAreTheft There he is again, painting the devil on the wall and just because Bill Ackman says something again I should believe him ? 😁
profile image
@BamBamInvest well, I don't quite like the Bill either, but it's got a lot of substance to it.
profile image
@TaxesAreTheft and knows just as little what is actually going on ✌️
