The U.S. Justice Department is investigating UnitedHealth Group Inc (UNH) for possible criminal Medicare fraud, the Wall Street Journal reported citing people familiar with the matter.

The investigation is being led by the healthcare-fraud unit of the Justice Department's criminal division and has been ongoing since last summer.

Though specific allegations are unclear, the probe is focused on UnitedHealth's Medicare Advantage business practices, the report said.

The Journal noted that the investigation adds to other government inquiries into the company, including antitrust concerns and a civil review of its Medicare billing practices at its doctors' offices.

On Tuesday, UnitedHealth Group announced that its Chief Executive Officer Andrew Witty stepped down from the position due to personal reasons. Following this, the healthcare company appointed Stephen Hemsley as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. He was the company's Board chair in 2017.

Additionally, the company announced its decision to suspend its 2025 outlook, citing higher than expected medical expenditures. However, the company expects to return to growth in 2026.

I will not change anything in my plan. If the USD 300 mark holds at the end of the week, i.e. tomorrow evening, I will go long with leverage on Monday. If we are below it, I will keep my hands off.

@Multibagger Good strategy, I'm not sure whether to sell and wait and see or see what happens today and then buy more. It would be more sensible to stay on the sidelines. But it seems to be warmed up news from last year and there are always reviews in the healthcare industry. Seems to me to be another sensible overreaction by people who are sensible and pulling the ripcord. But with everything that's going on in the market at the moment, I wouldn't be surprised if someone wants to get rich again.

It remains exciting, if this is not a concrete suspicion or new investigation, it could be bought up again very quickly.

It wouldn't be the case that the authorities announce every time they come by. If there were new investigations and inquiries, this would happen before the announcement or officially afterwards. You're hardly going to give anyone time to prepare for this and destroy possible evidence, are you? 😂

So if that's the case, something concrete should come today.

@Multibagger then let me know which leverage certificate you will go in with, could be interesting ✌️Vielleicht I will then also start a small position 😁

With such a large company, it is unlikely that the share price will shoot up again straight away. It is better to wait until a bottom can be seen

@Sansebastian can be done, but you can also trade on a technical reaction of 5% after confirmation of a strong support despite such a bad news situation and try to take 25% with a 5 leverage.
1
profile image
@Multibagger that is more like gambling. Moreover, it is not 25% because your leverage decreases when prices rise
1
@Sansebastian Doesn't leverage trading always have something to do with gambling? It's always a bet on rising or falling prices or, in the case of some products, on a sideways movement.
Reducing the leverage is a matter of opinion. I always have to calculate the return on my initial investment. With KO certificates where there is no premium, the leverage remains the same. If I have leverage of 10 on my initial investment, 1% in the share always gives me 10% in the certificate on the initial price.

But I'm with you when it comes to entering the share. I would also wait for a bottom to form in such a large stock

@Multibagger Leverage does not necessarily have anything to do with ganching if I stick to my strategy. It means risk management and having a trading strategy.

I would rather sell now with a manageable loss. No investor is guaranteed to go long here before the weekend, especially as there is a lack of any positive company news.
The old stock market rule currently applies: don't go long.
@BamBamInvest so I have already pre-selected.
FA0CJC for warmth seekers factor 5 😉😂
SX879H for hardcoretraders if it survives until Monday
survives until Monday. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
1
@BamBamInvest Well, that should be the end of the 300. I don't believe in a 20% return by tomorrow evening. Perhaps the 250 will hold. For the KO at USD 278, the end is therefore a new possibility.
HT56W2 has just been launched today. Leverage 19!

Fuck man... bought more yesterday

@BamBamInvest it doesn't help to sell with a minus now makes no sense with such a large company.

@Max095 would see what comes out here, the timing of the news is a bit strange. I think it's old hat.

So Novo 2.0 after all, the day before yesterday I briefly considered whether to bet on a countermovement - good thing I didn't do it

@Hotte1909 Can you explain to me why you are comparing them with Novo Nordisk? I still don't understand your comparison. You need similarities. Do you see a lawsuit in the Medicare area as a similarity? I don't see it that way...

@Brateeee I'm talking about chart technology and there is definitely something in common
1
profile image
@Hotte1909 ok, I am fundamentally on the move.
profile image
@Brateeee yes, of course you can't compare them fundamentally. I'm well aware of that 😉

Well thank you for the info...
I had assumed that such a CEO resignation didn't come from somewhere and that there was more going on. But I didn't look into it any further because they are not an investment for me in a crash anyway

@lawinvest We probably won't know what the real reason is, but the old CEO has taken over again and these accusations can hardly come at this time by chance. $UNH is so firmly anchored in the healthcare system with 400,000 jobs, making it one of the largest employers. I think that will soon subside, but we'll see.
You are so good!
@lawinvest The investigation into the medicare fraud has been ongoing since last summer.

@Aequitas right, probably nothing new, therefore exaggerated in my opinion, but we'll see if there's anything new/true about it.

Looks a lot like market manipulation to me. Or why would WSJ already be informed but the company itself not? They also recently published an article about Tesla claiming that Elon Musk will be replaced as CEO

@Lvca I have a similar view and I believe that after the sell-off this decline will be bought promptly with more clarity and due to the fact that we are heavily oversold.

After all, many have only just bought UH shares after the first price slump in the hope of a rebound.
However, this should only be attempted with companies that are not experiencing structural or entrepreneurial price losses.

In the case of UH, it is therefore a good idea not to jump in at the moment.

Oversold quality shares will certainly rise again. However, it may also be a signal that the valuation is too high and that there are problems in the company and that more investors are pulling out.

I have bought. The fundamentals are right. Unemotional.

@pipo49 I agree 💪
@pipo49 I am also invested and will consider buying in small tranches. I am convinced of the long-term development.

Great, I actually wanted to set a stop loss at 260€ to limit the loss to -80€... now I don't know what to do 👀 I got in yesterday with a small position of 860

@sakamotoo Well, what has changed fundamentally and why did you get in? I assume that it is a long-term investment based on your statement? Then be patient and draw your own conclusions. I see such news rather calmly, especially after the strong 2 sell-offs and the investigations should already be from last year. Are just above the next support and have prices from the Corona low . I am more on the buyer side here .
1
profile image
@BamBamInvest I deliberately got in to trade the stock on a 2-6 week horizon, but also with a stop loss if the price falls to the €260 mark. Which of course has now been triggered. 80 euro loss but still just about manageable 👀
profile image
I have now placed another limit order at €250.
The figures are correct and I am not critical of the change in CEO,
Hemsley has been with the company since 2006 and will get it back on track.

@Dividenden_Monteur I completely agree with you, stock up too

Brutal! 50% price losses in one month and this for an absolute blue chip share that was even considered defensive due to its sector.

This proves once again the importance of diversification when investing in individual stocks.

Nevertheless, it's madness, which is normally more familiar from companies that fail such as Wirecard, Credit Suisse,...

@Mister_ultra That's right, that's why it will recover. Too firmly anchored in the system and 400,000 employees. I love buying in a panic (a bit macabre, I know) but when do you want to collect such companies if not now. If you want to have them in your portfolio .
profile image
Here we are buttering up, now we are moving into the area of support, if it falls further we will buy more.

Under investigation. Fraud. CEO change.

LULZ...will be staying well clear of this. Good luck to all those brave enough to trust "Fundamentals". 🤣
