🟧 New to Bitcoin? Read this! 👇

The crypto market can seem extremely overwhelming at first. Thousands of coins, wild hype, and complicated jargon. But don’t worry: You don’t have to be an IT genius to get started with Bitcoin.

Here are the absolute basics every beginner needs to know to avoid costly mistakes:

1. What is Bitcoin, anyway?

Bitcoin is digital money. It’s the world’s first decentralized monetary system, meaning no single entity has sole control over it. The most important thing to know: There will never be more than 21 million Bitcoins. Unlike the euro or the dollar, Bitcoin can’t simply be printed. This makes it a hedge against inflation in the long term.

2. The biggest mistake:

“I can’t afford a whole Bitcoin.” You don’t have to buy a whole Bitcoin! One Bitcoin can be divided into 100 million smaller units called Satoshis (or “Sats”). You can easily get started with €25, €50, or €100.

3. The golden rule:

DCA (Dollar-Cost Averaging) Don’t try to time the market perfectly—even professionals rarely succeed at that. The most stress-free and statistically successful strategy for beginners is a savings plan (DCA). For example, you buy the same amount every month or every week. When prices are high, you buy less; when prices are low, you buy more. This completely takes emotion out of the equation.

4. Not your keys, not your coins 🔑

When you buy Bitcoin on an exchange (such as Trade Republic, Coinbase, or 21 Bitcoin), the coins are initially stored there. That’s perfectly fine to start with. But if you’re building up larger sums over the long term, you should look into cold storage (hardware wallets). Only when you hold the private keys yourself do the Bitcoins truly belong to you.

5. Think in years, not days

Bitcoin is volatile—which means its price fluctuates wildly. Don’t let days with red numbers make you nervous. Bitcoin isn’t a “get-rich-quick” scheme, but rather a long-term technology for preserving purchasing power. Historically, anyone who has held Bitcoin for at least four years has almost always come out ahead.

💡 Takeaway for getting started:

Set up a small savings plan, let it run in the background, and use the time to educate yourself. Understand what Bitcoin is and how it works—you don’t become a Bitcoin enthusiast overnight!
