The tough life of a trader!

I can understand very well that this isn’t for everyone, because heaven and hell are often very close together.

Example: As I posted here, I entered a leveraged derivative yesterday at noon at $VRT (-0,01%) at €1.60, as I posted here.

The stop-loss at €1.00 was triggered (about -40%), and the sell-off continued. Then, shortly before the market closed, I re-entered the same security at €0.59. The current price is €1.37, which is a gain of over 120% and more than makes up for the losses from the first trade.

Of course, this doesn’t always work out this way, and it was highly risky. So it’s better not to try this yourself—especially if you’re new to derivatives.

Congratulations on the trade, but at the end of the day, that was pure casino luck and not risk management. It should be seen as a warning rather than a model to follow.

@Flicko It’s probably not just luck. When you bet on red or black at a casino, the odds of picking the right color are always the same, no matter how many times red or black has come up before. When a stock like $VRT drops 20% yesterday despite good earnings, there’s a higher probability that a strong rebound is on the way. But yes, it shouldn’t be used as a model. It’s high risk. I did mention that at the end, after all. The fact that the stock is now up 220% doesn’t change that.

@Multibagger The logic still doesn’t hold up. Even on the same day, there’s no rule that says a stock has to rebound before the close—often, large funds actually push the price down even further as the market closes. Going into the U.S. after-hours market overnight with a leveraged contract is still like playing Russian roulette. A small dip after 10 p.m. and the thing would have been worthless. You simply caught the falling knife perfectly by the handle—congratulations on the profit, but that was a lucky coin toss, not a system.

@Flicko A small correction. If the strike price is in USD, the warrants cannot be exercised after market hours, but only during U.S. trading hours. That is, only from 3:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

@FairValue Yes, and of course, the leverage is many times greater the more the stock has fallen beforehand.

Yesterday, after the sell-off, I entered a position in $IREN in two tranches using 4x leverage—first at €6.80 (too early), then again just before the market closed at €5.40. It’s turned out to be a good move so far—we’re currently at just under €10, and I hope $IREN continues to recover and climbs back toward possibly €50 🙌🏻🤝🏻💸
