Mark, give me the Zucc 🤳📵

The rest of my target position went toward that… $TGT (+1,75%)

To be honest, I don’t even know why myself…🙂🙃

The first time I did this, I $META (-1,01%) in January 2022 … I kept buying more and more as the stock price dropped due to the metaverse . I think it was Metaverse… if not, feel free to correct me. 🤳

Then, at some point, late 2023 .

In hindsight, I realizedthat I should have held onto a company like Meta... or at least let a portion of it continue to grow.

(Yeah, I know, a lot of people hate this company, but imagine it’s not about Meta, but about other companies like Apple or Alphabet, etc.)

Since then, I haven’t sold any stocks entirelyunless I want to get rid of them absolutely don’t in my portfolio anymore.

Anyway…

If it it doesn’t work, it’ll work once the stock stumbles. As is usually the case on the stock market… Not always, but usually. ☝🏽

You can hate on me this time. 😅🥲

This is absolutely not investment advice!

Meta—I never quite understood how Facebook makes money.
Do users click on ads in their accounts?
Zuckerberg then got into cloud computing, servers, and now AI.
Like I said, where did his money come from?

@Smudeo Have you ever heard the theory that Zuckerberg is an alien? 👽

@PoorDad That's complete nonsense.
Everyone on the internet knows that Zuckerberg is a lizard person.

@Smudeo As a user, you don't even have to click on the ads. Just placing the ads is enough. He's basically selling digital ad space that he rents out. These days, about every 4th or 5th post is marked as sponsored. You see more stuff you haven’t subscribed to—things “you might like”—and ads than the people and accounts you’ve actually subscribed to.

@Smudeo my company alone spends 4 million year on ads and this is nothing, imagine this and more worldwide and not just company’s, small business and freelancers, etc…

Meta is undervalued, and in the future, its business—particularly the leasing of computing power—will grow significantly thanks to new AI models and other factors. Despite legal issues, its core business is stronger than ever, and it has become an indispensable part of today's world.

@Pazzzi I agree!

@Pazzzi That’s exactly the problem: Meta uses AI solely to optimize its own advertising. So far, they haven’t been renting it out to anyone (unlike Amazon, Google, or even SAP).
Where the money for these massive AI investments is supposed to come from—or how they plan to recoup those costs—is relatively obvious in the case of Amazon and Google, but not at all with $META!
The stock is performing well, but I’ve become extremely cautious about this company, and I don’t think I’m alone in that.
There’s no talk of the metaverse anymore either—three years ago, that was supposedly the hottest thing around, but it cost the company billions, and that money’s gone up in smoke.
And Meta doesn’t have any other proprietary applications for AI yet (unlike OpenAI, etc.). A major breakthrough in the social media space doesn’t seem to be on the horizon either.

@Gomerdoc I think that’s exactly why I’m so bullish: The stock market trades on the future—while the majority of investors only see the past metaverse disaster. However, Meta is essentially doing exactly the same thing as the other hyperscalers—just without effective monetization (yet). (Although the advertising business is growing faster and faster thanks to AI.)
I think I read that Meta aims to reach ~10,000 MW (10 GW) of total computing capacity by the end of 2026, which, if leased at ~25 million per MW per year, would amount to $250 billion (!) in ARR. That’s more than the company’s current advertising revenue.
Should this justifiably critical view shift—due to excellent AI models, AI applications, or potential leasing of computing capacity—the stock can and will be revalued.

@Gomerdoc What would companies, small businesses, self-employed individuals, and “models” 😜 do if Meta’s services didn’t exist? They’d face huge costs just to show their products to potential customers. Billboards along roads, ads in stores, shopping malls, and magazines—most people just walk right past them anyway, and hardly anyone reads them anymore.

With Meta, you can reach nearly every consumer in the world, even in the most remote corners, and with personalized ads, you can even target exactly the right audience. If your algorithm focuses mainly on fitness, you’ll see sports products. And all at a significantly lower cost than with traditional advertising.

In my opinion, the point of AI investments is mainly to become independent of Microsoft, Alphabet, Apple, and others. Meta’s AI is designed to run entirely on its own systems, and the models are available for free—unlike many offerings from OpenAI, Alphabet, and others…
The metaverse was a thing once; it’s still running in the background… we’ll see if it pays off.
I think the pros outweigh the cons.

@PoorDad I’m not denying that. Meta makes a ton of money in advertising.
But the question is: Do they need AI for that? Or rather, what role does AI play in their business model that justifies such crazy investments? To optimize advertising? AI has a much broader range of applications, and Meta simply doesn’t have those practical applications.

In my opinion, Meta first needs to find a practical application for these massive investments within its own operations, or else it will have to rent out and offer computing power as well.

With his Metaverse experiment, Zuckerberg has essentially cut the company's market value in half since 2021

@Gomerdoc Basically, it’s about building your own AI network—just like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.
While all of those are paid services, Meta offers everything for free because it doesn’t primarily make money from subscriptions, but rather from attention and advertising… thanks to AI, the advertising business is still growing at double-digit rates! This AI isn’t just for ad optimization—it’s universally applicable, just like OpenAI and the other AI providers.
Bottom line: Meta wants total independence—free of charge—to lease out its unused data centers and cloud capacity, to dethrone Alphabet from its advertising throne, and so on…
Elon Musk-style stuff, just without the rockets and far more profitable🤷🏽‍♂️😂
