JPMorgan Q3 Results: Strong Profitability, but Not Without Some Questions

Yesterday, I shared my key points to watch regarding the upcoming quarterly earnings reports from $JPM (-0,13%) . Here’s my brief take on the numbers:

Earnings Performance: With a net income of $15.3 billion, the company remains $JPM (-0,13%) highly profitable. However, earnings per share of $5.57 fell short of expectations. Not a perfect quarter, but still a strong result in my opinion.

Net Interest Income: Positive. $JPM (-0,13%) The company is raising its forecast for net interest income. For 2027, it is projecting approximately $107 billion (excluding the Markets business).

Investment Banking & Trading: Mixed. Equity trading performed strongly, while bond trading was weaker. Although investment banking fees were below the prior-year level, they rose compared to the previous quarter. I’ll have to wait and see how this trend develops.

Credit Quality: I will continue to monitor credit costs. I consider the further development of potential credit defaults in the current economic environment to be particularly important.

Outlook & Costs: As mentioned above, I view the higher-than-expected net interest income as positive. At the same time, cost expectations are rising.

My Conclusion: Not an entirely convincing quarter, but also no reason to question the long-term investment thesis. Profitability remains high. The key will be whether $JPM (-0,13%) the company can sustain growth while keeping costs under control.

I remain invested and will be monitoring, in particular, the further development of earnings as well as the outlook.

How do you interpret these figures?

I really want to own shares in one of the top four largest U.S. banks, but I don't want to pay that price...

@PoorDad I can definitely relate. To me, $JPM is one of the most exciting U.S. banks in the long term, but of course, valuation also plays a role. I’m already invested, but my position is still too small for my liking. That’s why I’m currently adding to my position through a monthly savings plan and would take advantage of significant pullbacks to buy additional shares.
