Unfortunately, that's part of it, too

Total loss with $GWH . I found them back then while searching for battery manufacturers that didn’t use lithium. I found (and still find) the technology convincing. Unfortunately, I chose a really bad entry point and then held on for too long. I’m keeping one share in my portfolio as a memento.

Not great, but at least I got a €300+ capital gains tax refund.

They plan to announce an M&A deal in September. We’ll see if I end up investing in them again at some point.

Do you have any idea why the stock has taken such a hit? The chart looks really bad. Is it because of the technology, or does the company have other problems?

Thanks for sharing.
Reality checks like this are important to drive home the point that there’s always a risk.

It would be great if, when you have the time and inclination, you could write in detail about what motivated you to buy back then (besides the story and the technology, perhaps?) and how the tide turned, what might have changed in the market, and what signs there were.

@DEW_7240 As I said, what really convinced me to buy was that I was looking for something without lithium and I still fully believe in the story behind battery storage. I then picked up $FLNC $BE, $GWH, and $NRGV, all around the same time.
I sold Bloom and Fluence at a profit. I’m still holding onto Energy Vault, and I plan to keep them. They were underwater for a long time, then briefly in the green, and then right back in the deep red. But I think there’s still more to come.
I’ll continue to monitor ESS Tech following the announced merger and might even buy back in. But since even a 100% gain would have only amounted to €20, I’ve decided to sell it now so I can also get my capital gains tax refund.
