Dark days

For the first time in years, I'm worried. The dispute between the richest man in the world and the formally most powerful man in the world will result in collateral damage if they don't come to their senses quickly after sleeping on it a few times.

The cause of the conflict seems to be that Elon is furious that Trump is cutting EV subsidies - which, incidentally, was also announced. In this respect, Trump is a politician who actually tries to implement his election promises and puts political responsibility above private friendships. That's not a bad thing at first.

Who comes out of this worse is questionable. $TSLA (+6,14%) will be destroyed in any case, as Elon has already managed to make the left hate him forever. And now he's also causing unrest in the right-wing camp. Who will still be on his side in the long term and buy cars? In any case, the government has serious tools to inflict serious pain on the Musk empire.

At the same time, Trump certainly doesn't need such an influential enemy to further complicate and destabilize the country's leadership. Schadenfreude is far from appropriate here, because the more chaotic and insecure the USA becomes, the more it hurts us globally too, and not just those of us who are interested in the stock market.

If Trump loses control, it won't primarily be someone new who makes everything better. There is no need to hope for a coup now.

Instead, the more unstable the situation in the United States becomes, the more likely it is that Pandora's box will be opened. Ultimately, it is only a matter of time before unpleasant contemporaries see a ladder in the chaos.

When the dust settles Trump is still a billionaire.

Elon is still a billionaire.

And the world is fucked.

I don't take such a critical view. But I do take a critical view of your statement that Trump is "a politician who keeps his election promises and puts political responsibility above private friendship". I think it has become clear in recent months how much his friends have benefited from him. The stock market manipulations alone and the growing Trump real estate business, where he can exert pressure, have shown this. But he also fills all the important positions with his people. His main concern is to push through his ideology and to do this he baits the public with a few actions that boost his image.

@Habicht128 "He is only interested in pushing through his ideology" - which is based. You are describing the nature of politics. Every politician imposes their ideology, the difference is whether they do it covertly or openly. I can still respect a politician who openly says that he wants to harm me. But most Europeans prefer the type of politician who conceals his crimes and maintains the appearance of civility.

@Soprano Personally, I think a politician like that
deserves no respect.
And to be honest, I don't know of any other politician who acts so corruptly, stupidly, humorlessly and unscrupulously and can draw the whole world into his circus.
into his circus.
Definitely a flaw in the system.

@Issa The whole comment didn't really have any content except that you wanted to get rid of a few insults against Trump. It lacks objectivity. Besides, you have almost the same choice of words as @CMustermann what's with your humor? I've never heard a politician criticized for not being funny enough.
imagem de perfil
@Soprano ok, ignore everything I wrote after the first sentence.
No respect whatsoever for trump.
@Habicht128 Cronyism in politics is nothing new, see the Greens in the last government.

Not to be underestimated: a sandbox fight between two big kids with great potential for damage. Infantile behavior is evolutionary in the early developmental stage of a humanoid... My shovel, your bucket. Can also get rough, mom usually intervenes before it escalates. Unfortunately, the two late-pubescent boys are already past the age where mom would still have any influence. And due to social brutalization, they also kick each other in the head several times, even when the other is lying on the floor beaten. If they carry on like this, it won't end well...no matter for whom. That concerns me more than any tariffs, they are fighting at grassroots level

@Dividendenopi
The same metaphor that Trump used before
painted between Putin and Selenskyj now seems to be repeated here.

@Tenbagger2024 Putin and Zelensky are at least ideological enemies. Every child understands why they fight, the only thing that is unclear is why they don't just knock each other off when there is nothing more to be gained anyway. With Elon and Trump, however, it's really small-minded sensitivities that are driving a wedge between the men. It's not about fundamental differences of opinion, but about bent egos and impulsive actions.

@Soprano
Yesterday wasn't about Merz and Europe.
It was just another big 🍊 show and ratings.
And Elon is simply more exciting than world politics.
1
imagem de perfil
@Tenbagger2024 Yes, Merz didn't cut such a good figure either. He already had the present he wanted to give Trump and his speech was also somehow pathetic.

Xi Jinping, Modi and Netanyahu are currently the only ones being received as equals in Washington.

@Soprano
You forgot Meloni

@Tenbagger2024 Oh damn it again. I asked ChatGPT and even after 10 attempts he couldn't manage to list all the state visits to the USA in 2025. First he forgot Duda, then Selensky, then Netanyahu ... Despite the search function, the AI still has really bad problems with everything that is halfway up to date.

"Political responsibility" - haha!

Trump is a confused, corrupt old man who can't get out one more coherent sentence.

He does whatever the last person who talked to him said. He has the ego, humor and general knowledge of a child.

I think you _clearly_ overestimate the man

imagem de perfil
@CMustermann Well no, he really believes in the things he says and does. You can still think things are wrong from the outside, but he simply doesn't pursue the kind of cynical policies we're used to in Europe.

The last German politician who could still spell political responsibility was Gerhard Schröder. Here, too, you can criticize him and say that he was wrong. BUT Agenda 2010 was the last political project where someone said "Even if people don't like it I HAVE to do it now because I think it's important" instead of "I'm doing something that will hurt the voters a lot but I'll just tell the suckers it's good for them".

But Europeans LOVE the latter type of politician. The one who will never reform the pension system because it would be necessary but not popular. And who sends the Bundeswehr into the African bush and tells people that otherwise Germany would IMMEDIATELY lose democracy.

@CMustermann Any proof of the "corruption" or just unreflective swearing?

@PaulPK don't know, does a gift jet from Quatar count? 😂

@CMustermann No, corruption requires something in return.
The fight is already over, you can lie down again:

"Musk and Trump apparently want to talk on the phone on Friday - conversation should lead to reconciliation in public dispute"

@user28461 Why don't you do this BEFOREhand? Like the toddlers of old
I have another interpretation – this kind of thing has already happened thousands of times when businessmen and politicians clash. The difference in this specific case is twofold: 1) the politician is the President of the United States and also a businessman, and 2) these kinds of 'discussions' usually don't happen so publicly, in front of journalists and across social media. This second point has significant repercussions on financial markets, as the public nature of the conflict can amplify investor reactions and market volatility

ok, but what do you think about deep state?
imagem de perfil
@_Hippo_ What's with that?
imagem de perfil
@Soprano maybe Elon is part of the Deep State, then he would definitely be more powerful than Trump thinks he is
imagem de perfil
@_Hippo_ Verschwörungstheorie?
imagem de perfil
@Soprano I don't think there is a lack of evidence for the Deep State and that one of the most traveled men in the world is without points of contact to the Deep State seems very unlikely to me.
imagem de perfil
@_Hippo_ The problem is rather that many people don't understand what the deep state actually is and does. It's not a club that you can simply join or not, but the deep state refers to institutions and structures that have not been elected but still influence politics.

This mostly refers to secret services, police, military, judiciary, but also to things like journalists.

In other words, if you think of school lessons, the executive and judiciary which, unlike the legislature, cannot be "voted out" by citizens and therefore always run the risk of either being completely subjugated by politicians OR no longer being loyal to them at all.
imagem de perfil
@_Hippo_ Elon Musk is not part of the state at all, so he can't be the deep state either. If you believe that there is a "government behind the government", i.e. people who can buy and influence politicians, the correct term would be shadow government.
In einem 1944er britischen Field Manual stand doch folgendes:

"This mixture of sentimentality and callousness does not show a well-balanced mind. The
Germans are not good at controlling their feelings. They have a streak of hysteria. You will
find that Germans may often fly into a passion if some little thing goes wrong."

Die Hysterie scheint ja immer noch da zu sein 😆 😆

@user28461 Are you referring to me now?

In my opinion, eliminating the EV subsidy is the right thing to do. Subsidies are always one of those things.

In my opinion, Elon has lost his way. And burnt himself out, at least politically. Being the cleaner is certainly great, but it's a short-term position and you're always the bogeyman afterwards. Whether you were successful or not. But as his name is directly linked to Tesla, well, goodbye. That just won't increase sales. There's also plenty of competition.

Otherwise, what do I care about Elon? I would never buy the cars, apart from his space stuff, his ideas are mostly pointless nonsense. He was the useful idiot to make Trump president by buying and controlling X, was the galleon figure in the clean-up and now he's done his job.
imagem de perfil
And where exactly is your point now?
We survived Donald Trump the first time, even though he tried really hard to let the world burn. We will survive it a second time and we will also survive a Tesla downfall, although I find that unlikely.

Counter question: Under what circumstances does this world still exist in which the dollar has become worthless? And do we still want to exist in these circumstances, or would we prefer to commit suicide?
imagem de perfil
@StrahlemannLP During the first term, nothing burned at all. It was actually a walk in the park and the American version of glasnost and perestroika. There was also a certain amount of chaos in the first term, but what will be remembered most is the policy of reconciliation and détente with Russia and North Korea, as well as the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Trump pursued his questionable economic goals much less consistently back then and the USA did not yet have its back to the wall in terms of financial policy. And that is a great pity, because economic policy is the area where I see Trump at his weakest.
imagem de perfil
I think in the medium term it's all half as bad. Enough Republicans hate Trump, enough Democrats would still buy a Tesla if it's the right car for them.

However, I completely agree with you that this is a very bad situation for America and the world, which will mainly benefit negative forces of all kinds.
