Source/Date: Reuters/Sky News, September 26–27, 2026. Nu Holdings is in early talks to acquire the British digital bank Monzo. The valuation under discussion is £8–10 billion (approx. $10.6–13.3 billion). Monzo has retained Morgan Stanley and Qatalyst as advisors; at the same time, it is exploring alternative sources of capital. Nubank itself has not yet commented on the talks.
My personal opinion:
The key consideration is the purchase price: £8–10 billion would be substantial relative to Nubank’s size and significantly higher than Monzo’s last private valuation of £4.5 billion from 2024. According to current information, a transaction would likely combine cash and Nubank shares. This would make financing, potential dilution, integration risk, and the return on capital employed key considerations for investors.
There is no binding deal yet. Should Nubank submit an official offer, investors should recalculate the specific financing terms and Monzo’s expected contribution to earnings.
My opinion 😉 I’m invested myself
