High memory prices for end customers have led to the first lawsuit in the U.S. On June 25, 2026, a class-action lawsuit was filed against the three industry giants—Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron—who must now respond to the charges in a U.S. federal court in California.

Allegations: Artificial Shortages and Price Fixing

The central allegation in the lawsuit is that memory manufacturers are restricting the supply of memory for the consumer market while continuing to serve customers in the AI sector. Specifically, the complaint alleges that the memory manufacturers simultaneously reduced or even discontinued production of, for example, DDR3 and DDR4, favoring HBM and thereby limiting the availability of conventional memory, while prices rose at the same time. In doing so, they “exacerbated this so-called RAMpocalypse by fixing memory supply and prices,” the complaint further alleges.

The allegations date back to 2022. At that time, demand for DRAM was extremely low; in response, the defendants are alleged to have begun jointly coordinating and adjusting availability and prices. As a result, prices rose by about 700 percent within four years.

However, the indictment argues that in a competitive market, at least one of the three industry giants would normally have significantly increased production if prices were rising sharply—but that did not happen. Not a single one of the three manufacturers took advantage of the others’ withdrawal to win over customers; instead, all three withdrew in unison, the indictment further states.

The lawsuit consists of 17 plaintiffs, some of whom are private individuals and others small businesses, who are now represented by several law firms.

Entry into the Market Virtually Impossible for New Companies

The complaint also points out that there have been legal proceedings against the three manufacturers in the past. In some cases, judgments were even handed down; for example, Samsung and SK Hynix were ordered to pay millions, while Micron acted as a key witness and escaped punishment. The central issue at the time was price-fixing in the so-called DRAM cartel; back then, in addition to Samsung and SK Hynix, Infineon, NEC, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Elpida, and Nanya were also required to pay fines, as the collusion dated back to 1998.

A thorn in the side back then—and even more so today—is that virtually no other manufacturer can succeed in entering this market. The costs are far too high, and the entire process takes a very long time, from manufacturing to customer qualification. In addition, the technologies are based on know-how built up over decades, and U.S. sanctions further complicate entry for Chinese companies, the complaint argues. The bottom line is that it is anything but easy for a new manufacturer to gain a foothold here, the complaint concludes.

The complaint seeks to “remedy the ongoing effects of the defendants’ unlawful and anticompetitive conduct,” in addition to damages, litigation costs, and attorneys’ fees. According to the current schedule, the first hearings and dates for testimony on the matter are expected to take place in September of this year.

Coinbase and Samsung have announced a partnership to provide the exchange's crypto trading services to 75 million Galaxy device owners.

Galaxy users will get access to the "One Service" through an integration with the Samsung Wallet.

Coinbase and Samsung have joined forces to offer Galaxy users in the US access to the Coinbase One Priority Trading Service via the Samsung Wallet.

Crypto trading and more

The integration means users can access crypto trading, staking rewards and payment options without downloading a separate app or moving funds.

By linking Samsung Pay to Coinbase accounts, users can make payments tied to their crypto holdings and consolidate crypto tools alongside their existing digital payment cards and IDs.

"Together with Samsung, we're combining their global reach with Coinbase's trusted platform to give people the best access to crypto - starting with more than 75 million Galaxy users in the U.S. and soon worldwide," said Shan Aggarwal, Chief Business Officer of Coinbase.

The integration utilizes Samsung's proprietary Samsung Knox security platform. It uses hardware-based encryption, tokenization and biometric authentication to protect sensitive crypto and payment data on the device.

Galaxy users in the US receive a free 3-month subscription to Coinbase One's Preferred Tier. It includes benefits such as no trading fees up to a limit and increased staking rewards.

In some cases, new or returning users can also receive a 25 USDC credit.

The companies confirmed that this move represents the largest single consumer distribution Coinbase has made to date.

While the launch is beginning in the US, Samsung and Coinbase plan to expand the program to international markets soon.

CALIFORNIA, USA (IT-Times) - Samsung Electronics, SK hynix and OpenAI announce new strategic partnerships as part of OpenAI's Stargate initiative.

The goal of the strategic collaboration is to expand the infrastructure critical to AI development globally and in South Korea.

The announcement was made during a meeting between OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung in Seoul, as well as top executives from Samsung and SK hynix.

The partnerships will focus on increasing the supply of advanced memory chips needed for next-generation AI and expanding data center capacity in Korea.

This positions Samsung and SK hynix as key players in the global AI infrastructure and supports Korea's ambition to become one of the top three AI nations in the world, a statement said.

Under the agreement, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix plan to increase production of advanced memory chips, according to a statement issued on October 1, 2025.

The goal is to produce 900,000 DRAM wafer starts per month with accelerated capacity expansion, which is critical to delivering OpenAI's advanced AI models.

OpenAI also signed a series of agreements today to explore the development of next-generation AI data centers in Korea.

These include a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korean Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), specifically to explore opportunities to build AI data centers outside of the Seoul metropolitan area.

The agreements signed today also include a separate partnership with SK Telecom to explore the construction of an AI data center in Korea and an agreement with Samsung C&T, Samsung Heavy Industries and Samsung SDS to explore opportunities for additional data center capacity in the country.

Samsung Electronics and SK hynix will also deploy ChatGPT Enterprise and API capabilities across their organizations to improve workflows and support new forms of innovation.

Update for the S-Class: Samsung's new flagship smartphones are in the starting blocks. They mark Samsung's departure from its own processors, with all members of the S25 family receiving Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite as their system-on-chip (SoC). The Qualcomm chip consists of a cluster with two prime cores and another cluster with six performance cores. The prime cores reach a peak of up to 4.32 GHz, the performance cores up to 3.53 GHz. There is no higher clocked version for Galaxy smartphones this time. However, the performance should still be sufficient. Now also a stock exchange traded everyday life from the view of a gynecologist.

When I get up in the morning, I first take my Dreamlens from MPG&E out of my eyes. These are hard contact lenses that you have to wear at night and then during the day WITHOUT ANYTHING have a visual acuity of 110% (in my case). I usually have minus 5.5 - and glasses and mask - you know the fuss. Unfortunately, I have found no share at all, but still did not want to withhold MY discovery of 2021.

But now really further... with my $MBG (+1,75%) V-Class I drive half an hour to the MVZ practice in Berlin-Lichtenberg.

Companies traded on the stock exchange in everyday professional life

Since I am @Simpson nominated, I now grant an insight into listed companies in my daily professional life.

Briefly about me: I am a mathematician and work in the semiconductor industry in a listed company.

Starting with the software: pretty much all computers in the office run Windows and Office from $MSFT (+1,42%). The PC's and the monitors themselves are all from $HPQ (+1,22%) with keyboard and mouse from $LOGN (+0,5%). The telephone system is WebEx from $CSCO (+3,36%) and the work phones are from $AAPL (-0,66%) with $DTE (-0,46%) contract (and that although next door $VOD (+0,28%) sits). In addition, there are large monitors in each conference room from $DELL (+3,27%).

In the production of the semiconductors itself there are of course many machines from $ASML (+2,01%), $CAJ (+1,44%) and $7731 (-0,03%). The many industrial gases needed come from $LIN , $AI (+0,5%) and $4091 (+0,39%). The basic material and chemicals come among others also from $WCH (+2,89%) and $BAS (-0,18%).
