Fortescue connects first BYD battery energy storage system to support decarbonization process

attachment

Australian iron ore producer Fortescue $FMG (+1,99 %)
$FSUGY (+1,63 %) has installed its first large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in North Star Junction (NSJ) - an important step towards powering its Pilbara iron ore operations with green energy.

The 250 MWh BESS, built with BYD's advanced blade battery technology $1211 (+0,18 %) provides 50 MW of electricity for five hours. This system stores solar energy during the day for use at night in Fortescue's Pilbara Energy Connect (PEC) network, replacing fossil fuels.

This 48-container facility is the first of a planned rollout of 4-5 GWh of storage capacity required for the company's energy transition.

Dino Otranto, CEO of Fortescue, explained that these systems will allow the company to store solar energy and use it when needed, supporting the transition to renewable energy.

The next BESS installation is planned for early 2026 in Eliwana.

I am invested. If things go well with solar energy and storage. Then you also want to use the electricity to produce hydrogen. Thank you for your information.
