1. France 🇫🇷:

France will hold a runoff election for president on April 24. This year there were 12 candidates, including Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen. Macron belongs to the liberal political party "La République en Marche" and Le Pen to the right-wing populist party "Rassemblement National". In 2017, voter turnout was 77%. The top two finishers will advance to the second round, where a runoff will decide the winner. ****The head of state is elected by direct vote for a term of 5 years. Re-election is only possible once. Candidates must have at least 500 signatures of elected representatives from at least 30 departments or overseas territories, such as French Polynesia. Candidates may belong to a political party or be independent.

According to the Handelsblatt, the election will have a greater impact than the Brext: "France, a founding member of the EU, would then be headed by a politician whose goal is to transform the community into a "union of free nations. She does not want to leave the EU, but to reshape it according to her ideas."
