The eurozone economy grew faster than originally estimated in the first quarter despite the spread of the Omicron coronavirus and the Ukraine war. This is according to a final estimate for the period by the EU statistics agency Eurostat.
In the 19 countries that use the euro as their currency, eurozone gross domestic product grew by 0.6% in the first three months of the year compared with the previous quarter, Eurostat said on Wednesday. That's up from the second estimate of 0.3% for the period and beats the previous quarter's 0.2% increase. Economists surveyed by the Wall Street Journal expect the economy to grow 0.3% in the first quarter.

Cosmetics group Beiersdorf has raised its sales forecast due to increased demand for sunscreen products. According to Vincent Warnery, the company's chief executive, its main brand Nivea performed exceptionally well in the second quarter, with skin care outperforming body care. He said sunscreen and facial care products were at the forefront of the trend.
The board reiterated its guidance for mid-single-digit organic sales growth this year. Warnery added that growth would be at the "upper end" of expectations. The operating return (Ebit margin) will be 13%, the same as last year, as previously reported.

The new batteries of the ID.4 have to withstand a lot. The new electric SUV is meant to boost Volkswagen's long-slumping sales figures in the United States. The German carmaker doesn't need problems with the power storage system that force competitors to recall vehicles from time to time. That's why the company is conducting on-site tests.
VW on Wednesday inaugurated a 32,000-square-foot, $22 million battery lab in Chattanooga, Tennessee. VW North America CEO Scott Keogh says the goal is to develop battery expertise in-house.
