It operates through the following segments: Mobility and Imaging Business Area, Fine Chemicals Business Area, and Life Sciences Business Area. The Mobility and Imaging Business Area segment manufacture and sell airbag inflators and micro gas generators for seatbelt pretensioners and polarizing films and other components for LCD displays and LCD projectors. The Fine Chemicals Business Area segment manufactures and sells epoxy resins, maleimide resins, UV-curable resins, LCD and semiconductor cleaners, high-performance chemicals and pigments for inkjet printers, dyes for inkjet textile printing, industrial inkjet inks, materials for image sensors, dichroic pigments for light-adjusting glass, near-infrared absorbers, dyes for textiles and paper, colorants for resins, thermal developers, pigment derivatives and catalysts for the production of acrylic acid, acrolein, and methacrylic acid. The Life Sciences Business Area segment manufactures and sells medical drugs, medical devices, pharmaceutical active ingredients and intermediates, diagnostic agents, and agricultural chemicals. The company was founded by Jotaro Yamamoto, Naokichi Kaneko, and Soubei Mogi on June 5, 1916 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.
