$FIE (-0.38%) Fielmann continues to grow - but share price still falls

• US acquisitions drive growth
• Full-year targets confirmed
• Share price falls the most since 2022

The optician chain Fielmann has continued its growth course thanks to acquisitions in the USA, but still disappointed the stock market. In the past quarter, sales rose by a good 15 per cent to 601 million euros, Fielmann announced on Friday.

The operating profit increased by almost nine percent to 142 million euros. However, Fielmann was unable to convince investors on the stock market.

The share, which is included in the small-cap index SDax, fell by more than ten percent at times, the sharpest fall since two years ago. The figures presented were below his expectations, wrote DZ Bank analyst Thomas Maul.

The European business in particular was disappointing. He therefore expects his colleagues to lower their earnings forecasts, although the company has reaffirmed its full-year targets.

Europe's largest optical chain expects consolidated sales of around 2.3 billion euros for the 2024 financial year.

The operating profit margin in the European business is expected to be just under 23 percent. Although it will be lower in the USA, it will increase significantly in the current and coming year.

In the first nine months of 2024, Group sales rose by 13% to EUR 1.69 billion. Five percent was attributable to organic growth and the rest to acquisitions in the USA. Adjusted operating profit also increased by 13% to 379 million euros. This resulted in a return of 22.4 percent. The current savings program is paying off here. In addition, more high-margin products were sold.

First step of a long-term plan for more customer focus in the world's largest market

HAMBURG AND DETROIT, MICHIGAN, USA - June 7, 2023 -

The Fielmann Group announces that it is expanding into the U.S. market. The two acquisitions announced today together represent an important milestone in Vision 2025, under which the German family-owned company continues to internationalize its business model.

The Fielmann Group has reached an agreement to acquire 100 percent of the shares in SVS Vision. SVS Vision is an optical company that operates more than 80 stores in nine U.S. states. The market-leading Michigan optometrist generated more than $100 million in sales in 2022. The transaction is expected to close by Aug. 31, 2023, subject to customary closing conditions.

The Fielmann Group also announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire 100 percent of the shares of Eyevious Style, Inc. This is the company behind the e-commerce platform Befitting, which significantly simplifies online eyewear purchases. The transaction is expected to close as early as today.

In connection with the transactions, the Fielmann Group also announced that it has been able to recruit Lukas Rücker as CEO for Fielmann USA, Inc. Lukas previously worked for Luxottica for more than a decade. Under his leadership, EyeMed Vision Care became the world's fastest growing eye insurance company.

The Fielmann Group is a publicly traded, family-owned company headquartered in Hamburg, Germany. Through an omnichannel business model with digital sales channels and around 1,000 branches, Fielmann supplies 27 million customers with glasses, contact lenses and hearing systems.

SVS Vision is an optician based in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, USA. The company is the market leader in Michigan and operates a total of more than 80 stores in 9 U.S. states. The privately held company employs approximately 650 people and generated more than $100 million in external sales in 2022. General Electrics ( $GCP (+2.39%) ) - One of the largest companies in the United States announced that it will split into three publicly traded companies. These companies will then focus on the aviation, "health care" and "energy" sectors. Wall Street analysts are supportive of the company's plan. Tesla ( $TL0 (+0.41%) ) - Elon Musk's brother, Kimbal Musk, sold Tesla stock shortly before his brother's Twitter poll. Delivery Hero ( $DHER (-0.86%) ) - After strong growth in the third quarter, Delivery Hero is again more optimistic for the full year. Revenues are now expected to be between €6.4 billion and €6.7 billion. The adjusted EBITDA/gross merchandise value margin of minus 2 percent remains unchanged. According to CFO Emmanuel Thomassin, the focus will continue to be on sustainable, long-term growth by strengthening the presence in key markets and the global leadership position. The stock is popular with investors today, rising 4.25 percent at times to 116 euros.

Coinbase ( $1QZ (-4.65%) ) - Yesterday, investors in the largest U.S. crypto exchange platform experienced a major disappointment, as the third quarter figures could by no means match the second quarter in terms of profits. The newcomer to the stock market's profits fell by 74.9 percent in quarterly comparison. While in the second quarter, US$1.6 billion was earned, in the third quarter, only US$406 million was earned.
