CATL $3750 (+1.25%) has started the large-scale commercialization of its high-performance next-generation battery cells for energy storage systems following the product launch in June.

According to a report today by local media agency Jiemian, the 587 Ah high-performance cell has achieved sales of 2 GWh, officially marking its entry into mass commercialization.

According to the report, sales of the 587 Ah cell are expected to reach 3 GWh this year.

CATL's production facility in Jining, Shandong, supports a daily production of more than 220,000 587 Ah high-performance cells, according to the report.

The production line produces one cell every two seconds on average, achieving a 42 percent reduction in production costs and a safety failure rate in the PPB (parts per billion) range, according to the report.

CATL launched the 587 Ah high-performance cell on June 10, achieving an energy density of 434 Wh/L - a 10 percent improvement on the previous model.

The product is the latest version of CATL's energy storage cells after the 280 Ah and 314 Ah products. According to the company, three years of research, development and testing were carried out.

Through further developments, including the 280 Ah and 314 Ah products, the global capacity of CATL's energy storage systems exceeded 256 GWh when the product was launched in June, according to the company.

These products are used in over 1,000 energy storage projects worldwide and, according to CATL, have had no incidents to date.
