Rumors of an alleged merger between $BMY (-1.85%) and $AZN (+4.59%)


Both companies are in the oncology industry .

A merger of the two companies would create a company with a market value of $400 billion . This would also make it the 4th largest pharmaceutical manufacturer.


  • Bristol Myers is facing impending patent expirations for blockbuster drugs such as Eliquis and Opdivo. A merger would significantly strengthen the pipeline of cancer therapies strengthen.



  • Skepticism at Astrashareholders: Many analysts are wondering whether AstraZeneca can handle this huge and complex undertaking at all, both financially and strategically.


At the moment, nothing is set in stone , but discussions are underway.

It's doubtful whether such a large merger would even receive approval from the FTC, the European Commission, and the UK's CMA.
It's an intriguing prospect, but I can't quite picture it happening right now.

@PoorDad As for $BMY 's promotions, I'm not sure yet if I'd be happy about them—what do you think? In theory, would you hold onto your shares in the event of a merger, or would you sell them off at some point?

@7Trader Since I'm already very bullish on healthcare anyway, I do think I'd hold onto a giant like that... at least until it makes sense to maybe trim the position a bit. What about you?
