Bitcoin mining at your desk - part 2!

Some time ago I introduced you to my little $BTC (+1.47%) desktop nerdminer with a computing power of 77,000 hashes per second:

https://getqu.in/gWKxbn/

Today my desktop got a little update and... I don't want to brag, but $MARA (+2.95%) and co. can pack their bags!

From now on I'm also serious in the mining business! With my Bitaxe Gamma and a computing power of over 1.3 TH/s, it won't be long before I find the next $BTC (+1.47%) find the next block😎

Joking aside, I've bought myself a new toy. The Bitaxe Gamma achieves around 1.3 to currently even 1.6 TH/s, is equipped with a BM1370 ASIC chip (from the Bitmain Antminer S21 Pro) and comes with an energy efficiency of approx. 15W/TH, which is already very strong compared to other devices.

How much Bitcoin do I earn with it now?

Very probably exactly 0!

I just let it run on the side and hope to find a valid block on my own.

That would currently earn me 3.125 BTC + the transaction fees🤑

The probability of this happening is currently around 1:4 million per day. If you consider that you have a 1:140 million chance of winning the lottery once a week, lottery mining is a lot more promising! But of course you can also talk yourself into it😂

Apart from the mini chance of winning a block, what other advantage does this have?

Well, you actively promote the decentralization of the network - and besides, people who mine themselves are cooler than others, so I've heard👀

In the picture you can see the Bitaxe on the left and my Bitcoin Fullnode on the right. I also run my own mining pool on this one. If the Bitaxe were to find a block, my node would propagate this block into the network.

I can only recommend anyone who wants to get more involved with Bitcoin to get a node or a small miner and play around with it. There is always a great learning effect :)

If you have any other questions about the miner / node or whatever else, feel free to write them in the comments😊

Have a nice holiday and a nice long weekend!

Grüße✌️

Honestly boss, these 100 devices at my desk are just fans because I'm so warm. You can tell!

@SchlaubiSchlumpf I work remotely 99% of the time and the desk is of course in my apartment😂 but it's still a great idea to use the electricity from the employer🤔😂

@stefan_21 probably the only way to operate it profitably (for yourself) in Germany is if you don't mind the electricity costs. 😂 Although the device is probably already too expensive.

profile image
@SchlaubiSchlumpf absolutely😂 the device is actually made in Germany and costs €189... so it's relatively cheap for the computing power. If you were to join a pool, you could earn a few satoshis every day. Without electricity costs, you could theoretically make a profit at some point. But that just leaves lottery mining and hoping for the jackpot😅
profile image
@SchlaubiSchlumpf hmm assuming 100,000 euros per btc and 18 w consumption (quick google search) you are making a statistical loss. Operating costs 13 ct per day at 30ct per kWh; yield in Bitcoin 7.8 cents.

If the electricity is free of charge, you statistically need about 1600 days to recoup the acquisition costs at a cost of €126.
So if you buy a statistically relevant quantity, e.g. 100,000 units, and operate them in the office at the AG, you can hope to achieve the ROI in 5 years.

Sigma mindset

@stefan_21 Chef that must be so that the floor shakes because of the fans. This is the new air conditioning system

@SchlaubiSchlumpf Others have a Proxmox server for SmartHome. It's not cheaper, but nobody expects an ROI. Neither is practically necessary, but unfortunately it's cool. 🤷🏼‍♂️

@TomInvest true. I just wanted to do a bit of arithmetic and come up with some silly ideas.

Good luck my dear.
Do you already have a mini nuclear power plant or a wind turbine in your garden?
3
profile image
@Tenbagger2024 Thank you, such a small mini nuclear power plant would be worth considering😂

@Finpoet Thank you! Do you also have a Bitaxe?
profile image
@stefan_21 No, I had a Jalapeño in 2013. It had 5 Gh/s and cost around €300

cool thing, you can spend the 190 euros :)
recently there have been a few messages from lucky lotto winners :)
Good luck !

Very cool. When I was still mining, I had about 1.5 kW of power consumption at 1TH😀 However, I also got a few Bitcoin per day. Unfortunately, I didn't keep them 😢

I also have a bitaxe Gamma 😁👍

What do you think of the NerdQaxe ++ ? https://bitaxe.de/produkt/nerdqaxe-2/ I've been thinking about buying something like this for a while, but maybe there are more effective options at this price? The good thing about it is that it would pass for a fan at work. The downside is that without a case, it would be risky to leave it unattended in the hotel room during the day on business trips... 🤓

@Iwanowitsch cool device :D 4.5 TH is quite a house number :) I've heard a lot of bad things about bitaxe.de though. They all sell the devices quite overpriced... the official bitaxe dealer in Germany is actually solomining.de - here you can see the list of authorized dealers: https://bitaxe.org/buy
bitaxe.de is not on that list :)
The Qaxe++ will certainly be cheaper on solomining.de when it is released, so just a tip.
If you connect it at work and don't have to pay for the electricity... go for it :D

I also do bitcoin mining and am really happy with it

cool post! I'm going to treat myself to this thing ;) Is that the one?

@Testo-Investor Exactly, that's the one :) really cool part😁
1
profile image
@stefan_21 what is the advantage of using an eig node?
profile image
@Testo-Investor Then you are your own pool operator. This means that the pool operator does not have your IP address or any other information about you in case you find a block.
My node runs behind the Tor network. This means that my transactions are carried out via my own node on the Tor network. If I find a block, nobody knows who I am and if I send transactions in general, nobody knows who I am either - provided they are No-KYC Bitcoin. Otherwise, the transactions always run via the wallet manufacturer's nodes and they can then collect information about you and, if necessary, pass it on to the authorities... so that's the big advantage of having your own node.

In addition, the pool naturally has much lower latency times, which means that a potentially found block is propagated faster into the network. This minimally increases the chance of winning (but this is negligible)

@stefan_21 Exactly my thought! You know me yes. Can you recommend a Bode? Especially light equipment etc.
profile image
How much electricity (kWh) does that need? Can it be operated profitably with PV? I would like to do the math.
profile image
@marda304 the small miner has an efficiency of 15 watts per TH. At maximum power it manages approx. 1.5 TH -> i.e. 22.5W.
That would be 0.54 kWh in 24 hours :)
profile image
@stefan_21 If I just check my app, it's the consumption of our TV in the living room.
So that's perfectly okay.
Do you have a link to it?
profile image
@stefan_21 That's really suspiciously little. But cool.
1
profile image
@marda304 that's ok! Will cost as much as printing a lottery ticket (in color) *g* But much cooler!
1
profile image
@Dividenden_Monteur of course: https://solomining.de/products/bitaxe-601-gamma
I ordered it with the code WASBITCOINBRINGT, you get it 10% cheaper :)
1
profile image
@marda304 Alternatively, you could of course also get one or more large miners, e.g. Antminer S9, if you have the power. The older, inefficient devices in particular are available for around €100 with 10 times the computing power :)
But they need a lot of power, I think 1,420W😅
profile image
@Finpoet I play the lottery with my work colleagues... the ticket actually costs me more per month than the electricity from Bitaxe :D
profile image
@stefan_21 where? Could be great for heating in winter.
profile image
@Marcie here you can get e.g. 8x S9 for 825€ :D
https://21energy.com/de/products/bitmain-antminer-s9
Recently they also had a promotion for a few days where they sold the S9 for 99€ each. Now one alone apparently costs 130€ again -> still less than I paid for the Bitaxe with 1.3 TH😂
Yes, you could use them for heating - that's also the business model of 21Energy -> Bitcoin heaters😁
profile image
@Marcie There is actually a Bitcoin Heater. In other words, a heater that charges Bitcoin. Or just a miner that heats the place. But it's inefficient in terms of costs

I don't know much about it. I saw that you have to enter a wallet address. Is that from Bitpanda, for example, or what?
profile image
@Heart If you find a block and get the 3.125 BTC plus transaction fees, you want to get the money paid out somehow :)
To do this, you enter the Bitcoin address to which you would like to receive the winnings.
This can of course be the address of your BitPanda account, but an address of your Bitcoin hardware wallet would be better :)

@stefan_21
If you find the treasure, let us share in the joy. 🪙
profile image
@Tenbagger2024 will do :)
1
profile image
@Heart I got myself an extra wallet for mining, which I only use for this purpose. I simply downloaded bluewallet from the Play Store.
