MATT and Momentum: August Monthly Review

From a macro perspective, the market is pretty boring right now. In August, there was heavy buying of the assets that had been sold in July, though defensive energy and commodity assets continue to rise. The latter were added back to the portfolio this month after being temporarily removed in July due to weak momentum.

Interestingly, this is the first month in which all assets have made a positive contribution to performance.

The market remains challenging for momentum strategies due to a lack of clear direction; MATT continues to hold a somewhat neutral position.

Interestingly, Bitcoin has surprisingly gained nearly enough momentum to be included in MATT—perhaps we’ll see a BTC comeback in September.

Thanks to you, too—I need to take some time to read through your MATT strategy again :-)

@Krush82 You always give me FOMO xD

About the dashboard: Ideally, the assets with the highest momentum should always be in the portfolio—but right now, they're ranked lower in the portfolio. Why is that? (I can't imagine it's just because of the cooldown.)

@Simon_n Yeah, I noticed that too—it's a bug in the dashboard. I'm working on fixing it right now.

@Simon_n I think it's fixed now
Thanks for the update. I find it interesting to see the different strategies compared month-to-month...
Would it make sense to include SPYTIPS as well?

By the way, for the past few days, the script hasn't been sending any news about SPYTIPS.
@financer_85 @SemiGrowth Does anyone here have any ideas?

@gorehammer I can stop by after the weekend

@financer_85 Is that still happening? If so, what's your GitHub username?
@SemiGrowth Unfortunately, it's not working very reliably yet. The last messages did come on September 4 and 5, but I was actually supposed to have received one today as well. Up until August 30, I had been receiving the messages reliably.
My GitHub username is Garv279

@financer_85 @gorehammer Go ahead and update your fork now. I've added a fix. It was due to a missing data entry from Yahoo Finance.
