I know, counter-questions to a question are stupid 😇. What are your motives for the purchase? What strategy are you pursuing that OMV fits in? They are a good dividend payer, although the next dividend will be lower. Not the overperformer in terms of price, some people like to use the share for swing trades. The last figures were mixed, the outlook is okay. I find the geothermal project exciting in view of the intention to reduce CO2, on the other hand a major gas project in the Black Sea, which will start production in the near future. Interesting cooperations in the chemicals sector and with Airbus could have a positive impact. OMV is not the first choice now, but if you want to cover the sector it is an alternative to Big Oil and outside the US

@Dividendenopi First of all, thank you for your message

My motives were mainly the dividend and the hopefully soon ending Ukraine war. In addition, I think OMV can be traded well between 30-50€ plus good dividend should not be a decade investment

@Dividendenopi Just for the sake of completeness, the regular dividend will rise to €3.05 but the special dividend will fall to €1.70

I hate the Austrian withholding tax on dividends, so AT only in ETF.

@Winston_Smith Yes, it's high, which is why I'm happy to live in Austria😅

@Aktien_kev It's not that bad for the Piefkes. If I apply for a refund, then I have no disadvantage compared to D. Well, again additional effort, but it is absolutely within reason
@Dividendenopi thanks, yes it may be that with some experience it's easy, I only had that once, 2023, also with OMV, have no refund to date, probably won't get one because I did something wrong, and the German tax office gave me hell after requesting the certificate of residence, I had money abroad and I should submit complete KAP etc., which I don't want, because I do very well with 25% plus Soli and like to save the KAP. It was a bad experience, but I'm more of an ETF investor anyway and otherwise almost only German and American shares, where none of this is a problem. Once you have a bit more practice, it's no longer a problem, as with everything. But you have to want to.

@Dividendenopi I see it the same way you get it 100% faster than if you want the withholding tax back from Petrobas or an Italian share

@Aktien_kev So far I haven't had to pay any withholding tax at Petrobras 🤷‍♂️😉

Since I have no experience with mergers in terms of shares, I don't dare to think about omv. The merger will come and then?

Does anyone have any experience of what happens to shares then?
@Aktien_kev petrobras ? Doesn't cost anything or ? Brazil !
profile image
@Coyote980 I personally thought that Brazil has 15% withholding tax

@OneInAMinion Which fusion do you mean?
@Aktien_kev I hope not 🤣... I've read it 100 times. I'm pretty sure about that. 😅

Do you see potential here in connection with the new government?

@Tenbagger2024 I'm not the only one who thinks that if the war in Ukraine really does stop, the entire Austrian economy will rise and everything will be pulled up with it

Had ÖMV $OMV once around 2009/2010 at 22 euros, unfortunately the price only moved sideways for years and then sold it at + 10 - 20 %, which would be a shame now after 15 years + 80 %.

@Smudeo especially a pity about the 5€ per share the last 2 years...yes, every year ^^

The tax deduction in Austria is too high for me.

How do you generally invest your portfolio? Unfortunately I don't understand
If this is your first OMV purchase and has around 5% weighting, 53% cash, around 20% weighting in 2 ETFs, you are distributing <6k in 30+ positions ... a mini building society saver with it, a short on Apple which is already 16% in the red (risk management stop loss?)
Amundi India and another ETF with 0.1% and 0.2% weighting - are you saving them or what are you doing with them?

It would be too small for me and too tedious to keep an eye on the individual stocks for the sums involved.

@Pzjs am actually relatively new the building society savings plan has not yet been updated it looks a bit different but yes etfs are saved + share savings plans and the Apple short derivative was given to me as a gift by a colleague😅

@Pzjs and cash position I am holding in front of me

@Aktien_kev before you continue to buy "wildly", my tip would be to set yourself a goal and think about how you want to get there (risk/sector/assets)
In general, I would liquidate at least 50% of your small investments (with many of them you are basically in profit - with the position size and depending on your broker, the trading fees will probably still swallow up most of it). Then build up the MSCI World properly as a basis (it can easily make up 50% or more of your portfolio value). Redirect the savings plans to the World.
If you want to have individual picks, concentrate on sectors and companies where you understand the business model and which you can keep an eye on.

@Pzjs I understand your concerns but am basically quite happy with the ETF, I agree with you that the position is proportionally too small compared to others. Sure, I have a few stupid trades going on, but the small positions that are slowly getting bigger through saving also work.

I've had OMV for a couple of years now, and yearly increasing my holding, the Dividends are good, the withholding tax at 27,5% is quite hard however in NL we get the difference between Austrian and Dutch taxes back, so net ok. It is a bit of a disadvantage for their industry they only pay yearly dividends. But the balance sheet looks healthy in my opinion.

My buying is always around the 36,5 euro mark and last years dividends Gross of 2x 5,05 EUR and now 4,75 EUR make it quite a cash generator.

The involvement of Adnoc and the merger they are looking into of Borealis, Borouge and now potential add on of NOVA Chemicals. provides a potential for more share holder returns in the near future in my opinion. Since I expect Adnoc to take full control since the Abu Dhabi government is also a major shareholder of OMV via Mubadala Investments, which in itself is the ultimate owner of NOVA Chemicals.

Anyhow, I'm betting on ADNOC their expansion lately with holding shares in Covestro $1COV .
