19getquin Daily Summary 07/25/2022
Hello getquin,
what a hot start to the week... Fashion retailer New Yorker has suffered an as-yet-unknown loss from a scam web setie, Goldman Sachs cuts earnings forecast for MSCI China, and South Africa looks to combat power shortages.
Europe🌍:
1. Fake Online Store Scams New Yorkers.
A fake online retailer has defrauded Brunswick-based fast fashion retailer New Yorker. Until recently, unknown fraudsters had used the streetwear retailer's brand name to create a fake internet store called "Blacksquad.fr". The store appeared genuine as the operators also used illegally stolen video and photo content from New Yorker. It is not known how many customers were harmed by the scam.

Asia🌏:
2. GS cuts earnings forecast for MSCI China.
Goldman Sachs lowered its earnings forecast for the MSCI China stock index to zero growth for the year, from 4% previously, according to a report released Thursday. China's property market has come under renewed pressure in recent weeks as many homebuyers have stopped making mortgage payments. According to Henry Chin, head of research for Asia-Pacific at CBRE, it could take five years for the property market to recover from oversupply in China's smaller cities.

Africa🌏:.
3. South Africa wants to address electricity shortages.
South Africa will seek to address its chronic electricity shortage by making it easier for private companies to build plants and by paying households and businesses to generate electricity from solar panels.
The urgent need to fix the country's 14-year power crisis was highlighted by the five-week blackouts that ended last week, the worst since the power grid nearly collapsed in 2008. President Cyril Ramaphosa and the ruling African National Congress have been heavily criticized for failing to fix the problem despite repeated promises.

1. Airbus achieves a win in court
In a court case with their large customer Qatar Airways, the airplane manufacturer Airbus $AIR (-0.84%) has achieved a step towards victory. On Tuesday, the British courts allowed the manufacturer to cancel the order of over 50 medium-haul jets of the A321neo variety. The planes ordered by Qatar Airways are now allowed to be sold to other customers. The Qatari state-owned airline must get airplanes elsewhere. 2. Covid lockdowns may lead to mass exodus of finance professionals
Having only spent a few years on the Chinese mainland, finance sector professionals are preparing to move back to Hong Kong and other offshore centres due to the harsh COVID-19 lockdown in Shanghai, and its impact on their business prospects and its upending of their daily lives. Thousands of bankers, traders and investors in the world’s second-largest economy’s financial hub have been impacted by the lockdown, including being confined to their home and struggling to secure food and other essentials for their families. This exodus could be damaging to financial stalwarts, who had planned to expand their Shanghai units.
