Annual kick-off #𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟐 with 𝐒𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬 from Handelsblatt and 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫 (European Commission). Ms. Vestager summarized, we need people who want to actively shape technology. From my experience, "digital sovereignty" (if one can still speak of it at all) can only be provided with relevant tech players who are also willing to participate in international technology development.
Even if Ms. Vestager wants small and medium sized companies to participate, the enormous costs are not affordable by them and so far not by any funding program. We see many technological developments concentrated on big tech players in a few states. In Europe, we have "just" Ericsson and Nokia as flagships, while much smaller states with several companies are active, such as Korea (51 million inhabitants, with Samsung and LG Electronics, among others) or Japan (126 million inhabitants, with NTT Docomo and NEC, among others). How should small businesses carry the legal enforcement of technological development? At the moment, we can see from the increasing litigation that large sums of money reserves are needed here.
I'm looking forward to seeing what ideas come out of the conference.
Best regards, Magnus
