Synopsys Raises Forecast šŸš€

Here's the hot news from Synopsys $SNPS (-2,73%)
(NASDAQ: SNPS) Q3 FY2026 earnings release, fresh off the US market close:

šŸš€ Revenue machine significantly beats guidance

Synopsys reports $2.477 billion in revenue in the third quarter.

That represents:

  • +42.4% YoY compared to $1.740 billion in the same quarter last year
  • above the company’s previous guidance of $2.410–2.460 billion
  • and thus even exceeding the upper end of its own forecast.

And that is precisely what matters: The market had expected approximately $2.44 billion . So Synopsys is not only delivering growth, but also a clear beat.

šŸ’° EPS also exceeded the upper end

Earnings are also strong:

  • GAAP EPS: $2.84 vs. $1.50 a year ago
  • Non-GAAP EPS: $3.91 vs. $3.39
  • Non-GAAP EPS thus came in above the upper end of the previous guidance of $3.69.

GAAP net income skyrocketed to $545.8 million, compared to $242.5 million in the prior year.

Non-GAAP net income: $752.5 million.

šŸ¤– Design automation is the real powerhouse

This is where it gets particularly interesting for me.

Design Automation: $2.003 billion in revenue

→ +52.7% YoY

and now 80.9% of consolidated revenue.

Even better: The segment generated $905 million in adjusted operating income.

That corresponds to an incredible 45.2% adjusted operating margin.

For comparison:

Q3 FY2025:

Design Automation Revenue: $1.312 billion

Adjusted Operating Income: $583.8 million

Margin: 44.5%

Now:

$2.003 billion in revenue / $905 million in operating income / 45.2% margin.

That’s exactly the combination you want to see in a compounder:

Growth + scaling + rising profitability.

🧩 Design IP is also trending upward again

Design IP had recently been the weaker part of the story.

Now the trend is reversing:

$473.8 million in revenue

compared to $427.6 million the previous year.

→ +10.8% YoY

Even more importantly: Synopsys explicitly states that the design IP business has returned to year-over-year growth.

This gives the story a bit more breadth.

It’s no longer just:

ā€œAnsys + EDA are saving the day.ā€

But increasingly:

EDA strong + Ansys strong + Design IP growing again.

🧠 AI remains the structural driver

Management continues to see massive demand driven by the increasing complexity of AI chips and the entire compute stack.

And that makes sense:

The more complex chips become, the more developers need EDA software, simulation, verification, and IP.

This is exactly where Synopsys fits in.

So AI doesn’t necessarily have to be a Synopsys product itself.

AI makes chip development more difficult → more difficult chips require more Synopsys.

That’s a pretty awesome indirect bet on AI. šŸ˜

šŸ”® And now for the important part: RAISE guidance

Synopsys is raising its FY2026 forecast again.

New expectations:

FY2026 revenue: $9.69–9.74 billion

→ Midpoint: $9.715 billion

Non-GAAP EPS: $15.04–$15.10

→ Midpoint: $15.07

In addition, Synopsys now expects approximately:

  • $2.8 billion in operating cash flow
  • $2.6 billion in free cash flow
  • 41.5% non-GAAP operating margin on a fiscal year basis.

And this is particularly interesting:

The previous FY2026 revenue guidance had a midpoint of $9.665 billion.

Now:

$9.715 billion.

So it’s been raised again.

āš ļø But Jack is also looking under the hood

One point must not be ignored:

The stock-based compensation for the quarter came to $231.6 million.

For a company with quarterly revenue of $2.477 billion, that amounts to just under 9.4% of revenue.

That’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s definitely something I’d keep an eye on in my long-term compounder analysis.

And, of course, a lot of Ansys is now factored into the numbers. That’s why the comparability with historical Synopsys figures isn’t entirely accurate anymore.

āš”šŸ’” Jack’s conclusion

Synopsys delivered a damn strong earnings report.

šŸ”„ Revenue: $2.477 billion → +42% YoY

šŸ”„ Non-GAAP EPS: $3.91 → +15% YoY

šŸ”„ Design Automation: $2.003 billion → +53% YoY

šŸ”„ Design Automation Margin:
45.2%

šŸ”„ Design IP: again +11% YoY

šŸ”„ Guidance: raised raised

šŸ”„ FY2026 FCF: ~$2.6 billion

And for me, the most important sentence:

ā€œBroad-based strengthā€ + EDA as the driving force + Ansys strong + Design IP back on track for growth.

That’s significantly better than an earnings beat driven by just a single business unit.

Synopsys is thus increasingly becoming a ā€œpick-and-shovelā€ bet on the growing complexity of the semiconductor industry.

NVIDIA builds the AI computing systems.

Synopsys helps develop the chips needed for that in the first place.

And as long as AI continues to drive up chip complexity, the structural tailwind for EDA will not diminish.

Jack’s Earnings Verdict: šŸŸ¢šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„ ā€œBEAT + RAISE + BROAD-BASED GROWTHā€

The only downside: The stock now has to prove that its valuation hasn’t already fully priced in this monster earnings report. 😈
