My dears,
I will remain invested here as well.
The US Army is looking to new drone ammunition - and AeroVironment is the supplier. The defense company has received an order worth 186 million dollars for its Switchblade systems. Particularly explosive: for the first time, the Pentagon is ordering the latest generation with improved anti-armor protection.
Two systems, one mission
The order includes the Switchblade 600 Block 2 and the Switchblade 300 Block 20 - both variants are equipped with an explosively formed penetrator (EFP). This warhead technology is specially designed to combat armored targets and is being used by the US military for the first time in AeroVironment systems.
The smaller Switchblade 300 Block 20 scores with a modular payload architecture, while the larger 600 version focuses on range and endurance. The system combines long flight times with improved anti-armor effectiveness - a direct upgrade over its predecessors.
Part of a billion-euro framework
The current award is embedded in a framework contract worth 990 million dollars, which was awarded in August 2024 and runs for five years. AeroVironment has thus secured strategically important access to the US armed forces' procurement system. The fact that the army is now ordering the latest generation of the Switchblade family confirms its confidence in the further development of the platform.
