Dollar General with a strong return in 2025
Dollar General Corporation $DG (-0.32%) has made an impressive turnaround in 2025 and is up over 49% since the beginning of the year. In recent years, the company has faced challenges from strong competitors such as Walmart, leading to a decline in market share and profits. However, with a clear "back to basics" restructuring plan and a response to economic disruption caused by the trade war, Dollar General has successfully increased sales and profits again.
In the first quarter of 2025, Dollar General reversed the negative profit trend and reported a gross margin increase of 78 basis points to 31.0%. At the same time, selling, general and administrative expenses increased by 77 basis points to 25.4% due to higher labor costs and rising expenses. Analysts agree that Dollar General is well positioned to achieve further growth, supported by ongoing new store openings and the Elevate and Renovate projects. The company also pays a quarterly dividend of USD 0.59 per share, which corresponds to a dividend yield of 2.10 %.
