BYD issues bonus shares

BYD $1211 (+1,74%) is rewarding its shareholders with bonus shares: the company announced that it would issue eight additional shares for every ten held. This measure met with a positive response on the stock market - BYD shares rose significantly. Analysts see this as a sign of financial strength and a means of increasing the company's attractiveness to investors. The move also comes amid strong operational growth in electric vehicles.

Okay. And when should this take place? Today, tomorrow, in 2 years? Can't find anything despite my glasses... 😳

@fizzelfritz will still have to be decided by the Executive Board in June. According to Finanzen.net, however, this is very likely. Would therefore expect an increase sometime in the summer.

@ModoQuasi Thanks for the information. Maybe I'll add to my positions
I didn't quite understand that either, but I read that the shares are diluted by a factor of 3, which probably applies to the capitalization shares.

This is what I have now found: BYD has revised its profit distribution plans and wants to pay out more to its shareholders. A new dividend plan has been adopted. Under this plan, shareholders will in future receive eight additional bonus shares for every ten BYD shares held. In addition, twelve capitalization shares (new shares issued to existing shareholders free of charge from the company's capital reserves) are to be distributed to shareholders for every ten shares held, and a cash dividend of RMB 39.74 per ten shares is also planned. Following the implementation of this plan to convert bonus shares and capital reserves, the company's total share capital will increase from 3.039 billion shares to 9.117 billion shares, meaning that the number of outstanding BYD shares will increase by more than 6 billion. It is no wonder that shareholders are responding favorably to the announcement - the stock is up 4.90% to HKD 394.20 in Hong Kong today and is also up more than 3% here.

How long do you have to have held the shares to receive the bonus?

I don't quite understand the article. He is supposed to give bonus shares and capitalization shares... what is the difference? And does the market capitalization remain unchanged or are these shares that byd holds but very much itself?

@GHF So I think it's simply a split.
With the best will in the world I can't imagine that everyone who holds 10 shares (approx. €450) simply gets 8 shares (€360) as a gift. Plus the dividend (€0.48 ps) Asian shares (yes, China is also in Asia) rarely have such high prices as $BKNG bookioder, for example, even prices of around €200 are the exception rather than the rule. At the time of the Sony split (from around €70 to €15), I had read that employee shares are usually sold in packets of 100 and therefore the companies prefer to have what we might call a low share price
Do you have to hold 10 shares for this or is it calculated on a pro rata basis? If I only owned 8 $1211 shares, would I get nothing? :o
