The geopolitical situation and SpaceX's IPO, which is probably planned with great fanfare, will push many companies offering services in space this year.
I am currently buying a basket of several promising companies so that this boom does not pass me by without a trace - it is already in my portfolio. $RKLB (+0,25%) is already in my portfolio.
The second stock to make it into my portfolio is $PL (+0,77%) made it into my portfolio:
Planet Labs provides satellite data and offers this to commercial, government and military customers with an AI-supported analysis platform. They operate their own fleet of around 140 satellites for this purpose.
Revenue is mainly generated in the form of long-term service contracts.
The backlog has risen sharply in the last year and currently amounts to > USD 700 million (+250%), with 1/3 to be realized within the next 12 months and the remainder in the next 24 months. The largest customers are the SWE military, the DEU government, a JPN commercial partner, the US military and NATO.
At least in the past, Planet Labs has had no technical difficulties in fulfilling the contracts. The risk that the main customers (=state actors) will not be able to pay should also be close to zero.
AmS therefore has a strong backlog with a product that generates ongoing revenue and will continue to be in high demand due to the security situation.
The fundamentals are not yet that meaningful. PL is not yet consistently profitable, but the strong increase in the backlog has not yet had an impact on sales, as many of the major contracts will not start until 2026/2027. Cash flow is already positive, with EBITDA of USD 6-8m expected for 2026, although GAAP is still expected to remain negative in 2026.
A buy for me, albeit with only a small position and in combination with a trailing stop loss. Increased volatility is certainly to be expected, but the steadily rising backlog will gradually be reflected in the fundamental data.
Go for it!
