We have one child. We would have liked to have a second one, but we quickly realized that it would mean a lot more stress and sacrifices. So we decided to have just one child and to give him everything he needs.

I don’t think we’ll be able to turn things around in Germany to increase the birth rate, since the main focus over the next few decades will be on somehow managing the aging population, which also happens to be the largest voting bloc.

@FinanzMechaNikk Given the additional burden and sacrifices involved, you’re saying that the birth rate will stay where it is.

What, in your view, constitutes an additional burden or a sacrifice? Or rather, what does the government need to change to increase the birth rate?

@FinanzMechaNikk We have two, and I felt like the second one was easier at the beginning because a lot of things were already in place and we’d already gotten into a routine with the first one. But it was also very exhausting...
In the end, it really depends on your individual situation.
I feel like the leap to three is a bigger one—we would have had to make significant investments in both our living space and our car.

@Alpalaka Above all, promote the economy and affordable housing. Right now, I get the impression that people are paying as many taxes as possible to somehow “support” someone, while more and more people are losing their jobs or income because companies are moving away. Just my personal opinion 😅

@Isus01 It comes down to the available living space. If we had one more room, it wouldn’t be a problem. But since smaller houses in our area are completely dilapidated and/or come with astronomical price tags, we’re sticking with our condo and sticking to having just one child.

You can always feed and raise a child, and we don’t want him to have to go without anything while Mom and Dad work themselves to the bone to pay off the mortgage 😅—that’s not why we started a family.

@FinanzMechaNikk I don't want to worry you, but your child is missing out on something: the love of a sibling 🥲. He'll end up being a spoiled only child who thinks of himself as the sole heir 😬

@DonkeyInvestor Don't worry. I'll invest the family fortune in a leveraged certificate with leverage >80 and a low knockout threshold beforehand. If things go well, he won’t have any more worries, and if things go badly, I’ll just look innocent and say, “Sorry—it was a grandchild scam,” before I succumb to a heart attack 😆

By the way, I have an older sister, and there’s definitely no love there 🤣—it’s more based on resentful tolerance on both sides.
