(Yicai) Dec. 18 -- Contemporary Amperex Technologies, the world's leading manufacturer of electric vehicle batteries, has begun using the Xiao Mo intelligent robot for complex tasks, including battery connector assembly, at its Luoyang plant in Henan Province.
CATL announced last night that the plant is the first in the world to use intelligent robots in its battery pack production lines. Xiao Mo was developed by Spirit AI, a Hangzhou-based startup supported by CATL's founder.
According to CATL, the Xiao Mo robots are responsible for the final functional test of the battery packs before they are released from production. The test plugs, which carry high voltage, must be connected precisely to the designated points on the battery pack.
The robots can reduce the error rate in the battery production line, increase product stability and increase the daily workload threefold compared to manual operations, as CATL emphasized.
Functional testing was heavily dependent on manual operations, which carries the risk of high-voltage flashovers and poses challenges in maintaining consistent work efficiency and quality control, CATL pointed out.
Equipped with an advanced end-to-end image, voice and action model, Xiao Mo has strong environment recognition and task generalization capability. It is precise in positioning and reliable in operation, and can also dynamically adapt operating conditions to different battery models.
