My thought would be, do you always have to own a house?
We also considered buying a house at the time, but realized that we would have nothing to live on.
Renting is a very good way to live and you can save a lot for old age.
I think you have to think about whether you want to live now or not pay rent as a pensioner.

@Keksbaer yes.... I'm talking about. A house is usually paid off 1.6-2 times. For most people, the financing is now spread over 30 years +, which results in a corresponding interest burden.
Quite apart from the renovations that have to be carried out over the 30 years.
In my opinion, we need to move away from the ideal "house" that once applied. Times are changing.
Renting also has its advantages: I usually pay a little less per month than when I buy. So I can put more aside. I don't have to build up reserves for renovations, modernization, etc. build up.
I can put the idea of buying a house behind me and my financial situation looks much better.
Btw: as I wrote it here, I think it applies above all in urban areas. In the countryside, you certainly have to evaluate it differently

@lawinvest That's true, it can certainly look different in the countryside. I also live in a conurbation, the nearest city to Leipzig to be precise, and some people here want €850,000 for a 130 m² condominium just because it's close to the lake. 🤦
But who wants to live in the countryside these days? Everyone is moving to the big cities.
You really have to say goodbye to the idea of always having to have a house these days.

@Keksbaer Yes, that's true, but I got a relatively decent price at relatively decent interest rates. But it's also clear that Ma is putting a lot into it. Of course I want to pay off the gas quickly, but with the tax burden you tend to have less in your pocket all the time.
