Biotech takeover for up to 5 billion dollars!

$GILD (+2,98%)

I remain invested in Gilead.

The takeover merry-go-round in the biotech sector seems to be spinning faster and faster from week to week. It was only on Easter Monday that Neurocrine Biosciences announced the billion-euro takeover of Soleno Therapeutics. Today, Tuesday, the next bombshell is set to follow: Gilead Sciences is making a bid for the Munich-based biotech company Tubulis.

The American biotech giant intends to strengthen its oncology research division with the acquisition. Tubulis is already working with Gilead in the field of antibody drug conjugates, so-called ADCs. Several billion-dollar takeovers have taken place in this area in recent years (see Pfizer/Seagen, Gilead/Immunomedics or AbbVie/Immunogen).

The takeover of Munich-based Tubulis by Gilead now joins this prestigious list: The Americans are initially putting 3.15 billion dollars on the table. A further up to 1.85 billion dollars may follow if milestones set by the companies are reached.

The American biotech company, which is known worldwide for its HIV and hepatitis drugs, is thus continuing its "shopping spree". After the Americans announced the acquisition of their partner Arcellx on February 23, the acquisition of privately held Ouro Medicines was announced exactly one month later.

Tubulis does not yet have a product on the market. However, the flagship project TUB-040 and TUB-030 are currently in clinical development.
