Bitcoin facing a threat from quantum computers within three years?

I read a summary of 32 sources in Perplexity today, all reporting that quantum computers could crack the current encryption of crypto by 2030. $BTC (+0,21%) encryption by 2030. That would be really threatening. What do you think? ?

Headline:

Bitcoin faces a critical threat from quantum computers within three years, according to Hunter Beast, author of Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 360. He warns that quantum computers using Shor's algorithm could crack Bitcoin's elliptic curve cryptography by 2028

Summary of Perplexity:

Why it matters

The threat to Bitcoin from quantum computing poses a potentially existential crisis for the $2 trillion cryptocurrency market and the millions of investors, institutions and countries that have adopted digital assets. If quantum computers are able to crack Bitcoin's cryptography within three years, as warned, it could trigger significant financial losses, undermine trust in all blockchain-based systems and jeopardize the broader digital economy, which relies on similar cryptographic protections for banking, communications and security.

To make a long story short: It's not a problem for Bitcoin. I'm not sure about the other cryptocurrencies. Anyone who understands Bitcoin and the system knows that there won't be a problem.

Why is that?

From a purely technical point of view, https could also be broken before then. Why is nobody talking about this? Anyone could read and change your communication with your bank.

@U1F34E important, and nobody cares 🥹

@U1F34E HTTPS has changed over the past decades. Try using modern browsers with old encryption algorithms. This does not work because browsers reject this type of communication, but since HTTPS is a protocol, it can be adapted accordingly.

With cryptos, I wouldn't be so sure whether this can be adapted, especially if transactions can be calculated and determined. This is a very serious scenario that the crypto world should prepare for.

The entire financial system must face up to this problem.
Quantum computers will crack traditional encryption (RSA, ECC). This is a massive risk for banks. Two examples:

Harvest now, decrypt later: attackers store encrypted financial data today and decrypt it later using quantum power.
SWIFT & payment networks: Manipulation of transactions if signatures are not quantum secure.

Without post-quantum crypto, things will get really uncomfortable.
